1.2 Tsi engine - Skoda (VAG engine)

Just looking for opinions on 1.2.tsi petrol engine.

Currently looking at a Skoda Roomster 2010 with a 1.2 tsi engine, vehicle is just over 90k
on the mileage and had a new chain/tensioners less than 1000 miles previous (receipts)
via a Main Dealer.```

Car won't be driven hard but just wondering if the engine is problematic, I know the later
version with the alloy block and belt as opposed to chain is better.

Any opinion would be much appreciated.

My wife’s Skoda Fabia 1.2 TSi (90ps) is 10 years old and 75k miles. The car and the engine have been very reliable and robust so far.

My son has a 2014 VW Polo, 1.2 tsi. I believe it is a timing belt rather than a chain? (I'll check tomorrow)

Yeah they are crap, sorry.

The 1.0/1.2/1.4 TSI engines pre 2013 were the EA111 engine that had a whole host of issues, including cam chain and tensioner design as you are well aware of, but also issues with slow warm up, coil pack failure, turbo failure, blowby, high oil consumption, carbon build up and probably some other bits I forgot.

Post 2013 these engines were replaced with the EA211, which addressed the majority of its shortcomings, including replacing the chain with a belt.

Elderly mother had a skoda with that engine and DSG, to replace the clutch was about the same value as the car from what I recall.
