So the chance of a better Alfa Romeo Berra 2006, 3.2 with 80k and a full service history for £3500 has just come around. I know it could be a financial disaster, but the temptation is strong! I'm I nuts to even consider this?

Can't see any appeal personally - it's ugly, impractical, rubbish to drive and will probably be remembered primarily simply for not having the Busso engine.

With a few miles on it , the suspension will be worn out, even when new they were front heavy, poor handling, maintenance hungry dogs.

Subframes rot, front and rear and they are not particularly fast but still pretty thirsty.

Shall I go on?

I'd rather have this

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/285117654081?hash=item4...

Alfa GT 3.2 V6, (but not sure why it's £3.9k when other cars are nearly double?)

I think this "is" the Busso engine, but in lesser tune than the GTA cars.

The 156 based GT has the better chassis I think, but the Brera is definitely the better looking of the two.

By all accounts they are pretty.

But gutless and lardy - although it looks like you want to buy it anyway!

This seems the correct answer. But, the Brera is an attractive motorcar which counts for a lot, and the V6 does make a nice noise.

The later 'Prodrive' cars are meant to sort out the handling.

If it were me, I'd go looking to find the nicest V6 engined car that my budget allowed, and not worry if it was a GT, Brera or even a saloon (156, 159, 166 etc.).

I had the spider version for a couple of years about 3-5 years ago - with the lowly 2.2 engine.

Not a fast car, but that didn't bother me at all. Despite all the stories you hear, my ~10 year old car was fine. Initially had a few issues with the roof flap motors but that was sorted - and obviously doesn't apply to the Brera anyway.

Everything worked perfectly on it. I had to replace a window regulator - but that's hardly unreasonable since I've had to do the same on various cars I've owned over the years. The only thing I remember failing is the clutch or brake pedal switch (can't remember which) - which caused cruise control to stop working. I replaced the switch and it was fine again.

I really liked it - it had character, I liked the interior and it was a good looking car. Didn't seem anything like as fragile as people would have you believe - I'd happily own another one and do find myself browsing other Alfa's fairly often.
