I popped in there last night at around 10pm, I’d forgotten that on some Saturday nights there is some kind of unofficial car cruise / meet that assembles in their car park. location

If any of you have never experienced such a thing, I have to say I’d be very worried about buying any kind of secondhand bmw M2, M3, performance merc the usual VWs, nissan GTR etc, even a McLaren was there (not going nuts though) certainly if they remained mapped when you buy, as you really won’t believe the utter carnage that must be occurring in the combustion chambers and exhausts of these poor innocent motors.

They’ve had crackle maps installed and then they proceed to literally (yes literally) rev the st out of their engines for an hour or two, deafening anyone in the vicinity. There’s also loads of bikers doing rolling burnouts / cars driving like idiots etc but honestly it’s the backfiring thing that is the main event.

There’s some very nice modern models that you just know when sold / traded in then some poor enthusiast is going to buy it not know it’s history weeping Imagine like this but with dozens of cars. Yes I am expecting to be called an old fudbiggrin

Agreed, such a shame that car culture comes to this. This is such a good example of why we can't have nice things, it's perfect ammunition against car culture.

Sounds identical to what I just witnessed as Sainsbury’s in Leek. The usual myriad of BMW M Performance, M models, Mercedes AMG, VW “R”, a Supra and a single Lamborghini.

Tearing around a carpark already hosting a car boot sale, generally causing a nuisance to the ability to ingress and egress the carpark, parking in disabled bays and revving the nuts off the poor things to make them bang and pop.

Fortunately the police quickly arrived and dissipated the idiots.

Given the millions of kms of destruction testing cars go through, do Maccy D car park moronics even touch the sides? Sitting on a computer controlled rev limiter probably isn’t doing any damage compared to the abuse a press car or “prestige hire car” goes through…

I went to cruises 20 years ago and they were the same.

Max Power type cruises were doing this kind of stuff 30 years ago.

I expect before that, there were plenty of the older sort on here (back on their yoof) revving their Escorts, Opel Mantas and whatever stuff was cool back then.

Nothing changes. It just evolves.

I've never really understood the point of burnouts. What does it prove apart from how quickly you can get through a set of tyres?

I suspect that the modifications made may impact on the reliability, and I also imagine that they are not designed with stationary high RPMs as normal operating conditions.

Given the location and area.......why am I not surprised.

Some time ago, I was following an Audi RS3 off the M3, that had been barry'd up a bit, and clearly had a fart box bang map installed, and the smell of unburnt fuel was horrific, like in the old days following a carb'd car running on full choke when still cold, but x100.

Yeah, kids in the 50s and 60s running their cars and bikes through straight pipes were much more restrained laugh

The point (other than on a track / strip) is fun.

Me neither. Moronic idiots. They need to grow up.

The existence of car cruises such as this have no bearing whatsoever on how worried I am about buying a performance car in future.

I've seen a few car meets in central London too while out at night. There's a part of Chinatown around Gerrard Place you can park up at night that has the odd cruise meet but not seen the pop-n-bang bruvs there. They tend to be more the ones obsessed with polishing their paintwork than making loud noises.

As much as I hate these exclusion zones, I think the ULEZ helps keep these s out of central London. The only positive thing to come from the governments obsession with electric vehicles is the lack of noise. The streets of central London are gradually getting quieter at night as all the delivery drivers switch to electric bikes.

Exactly. Some kids meet up, rev their engines a bit and generally hang out, look at cars and show off a bit.
When posh people do the same we call it a Festival of Speed.

Grumps.

The one that is a properly organised event at a track and not in a supermarket car park?

Got to be the most daft thing I've read on PH this year!

GFOS (as an example) is an organised event, with public liability, first aid and public safety planned to a high degree.

In comparison, the aforementioned.....'meet' is in a public place, causing an annoyance and potential danger to the public.

In some of the clips, these cars are driving down roads bordered by houses. The noise pollution is horrific. Anyone participating in such an event should have their car crushed - simple!

Touched a nerve a bit with that comment ha!

If only these kids had inherited a massively stately home with acres of land to invite their mates over. Guess for now the asda car park will have to do.

The last time I went to a car meet, it consisted of people driving like total morons and kids on mopeds riding them in an even more moronic fashion.

I went to the old fashioned cruises in the early 00's and everyone was proud of their car, they cared and didn't drive like nobs or if they did they were in the minority.

They are kids... showing off is what they do. There's a limit, but I'm not sure what's wrong with being in a carpark.

Don't get me wrong, I hate the pop and bang map craze, but then I catch myself and smile thinking I probably would have done the same thing when I was 17! As long as they're not doing things endangering the public, I don't see the issue in it.

At least now every car has Bose or Hardon Kardon, no one seems to obsessed with the big sound system anymore.

Oh dear, grumpy old men who have forgotten the things they got up to growing up eh?

Or did you all exit the womb with waffle backed driving gloves and a pipe rofl

It’s been going on for years, kids want to be kids. If it gets out of hand then the property should take steps to close the car park to them. The other week OP was moaning about bikers, now kids.

Oh well.
