Hi guys could someone please help I'm in a very stressful situation, I bought a car on finance from arnold clark in November 2022, at the time of purchase I didn't check MOT history well as mileage history. Now wanted to get rid of car as I'm not happy with it, when buyers put the car details in the system it appears to have mileage discrepancy which is nothing to do with me,so I took it back to arnold clark they gave me details of car garage where previous owner had MOT done, (that garage owner put in wrong mileage on certificate). I've called DVSA for help they want emission certificate or invoice etc. Now I rang car garage where MOT was done but only to find out owner has sold up the garage I can't find him anywhere. Arnold clark aren't helping me and I got no where to go. My experience in cars Is minimalistic, could somebody please guide me what to do next. I be very grateful 🙏

I assume it's the 44,365 miles.

what was it actually? 34,365?

Have you service history or an invoice that matches this?

Yes you are absolutely correct. If u look On the screen car only done about 41000 miles

I have the most recent service stamp in the book which reflects correct mileage. I'm having sleepless nights because of this

I assume it was MOTd when you bought it in November at 38,162 miles.

Do you have any history from before you bought it? Any stamps in the service book, especially around January 2022 when it was MOTd with the wrong mileage?

I had a garage put the wrong mileage on an MoT and I went back a couple of days later and they put it right. This has to be done within 28 days (I think?) so even if the Mot station were in business, they can't help now.

You'd have to apply to DVSA but if the service history is sequential, this should be sufficient for people. Cars get the wrong mileage on MoTs regularly but it's a shame the owner at the time didn't get it changed. frown

This is going to be a hard sell. Moving on after only three months and a mileage discrepancy. Good luck.

I suspect the best route would be to trade in with Arnold Clark.

Just trade it in for whatever you’re going to replace it with. Or flog it to WBAC or similar. Yes, you are going to lose money but that’s going to be the case come what may if you bought from a dealer and are selling after only 3 months

Failing that someone will turn up eventually who doesn’t do their homework either and you’ll be off the hook

If you’ve got service stamps either side of the ‘dodgy’ mot mileage reading that reflect the correct mileage profile then a buyer is likely to be happier, but it’ll a challenge.

Unfortunately I don't have mot record for January 2022. Thank u guys for the advice , i wasnt allowed to reply until 24 hours as im new here. Not exaggerating, its hard earned money doing 7 days work saved up deposit for this car. I should have known better that's the bottom line but arnold clark should've also checked all this before selling me this car.

Correct. Arnold Clarke should have either :-

1. Not bought the car for retail.

2. Informed you at purchase that Hpi showed a mileage discrepancy.

3. Sorted the mileage discrepancy before retailing the car.

I used to do a bit of re marketing retail cars to the trade. If I'd offered most dealers a car which had a mileage discrepancy I'd get answers like :-

1. I'd love to buy that car, call me again once you've sorted the mileage discrepancy.

2. Shame about the mileage discrepancy, so it's not for me.

3. Why are you wasting my time, and yours, offering me a car with a mileage discrepancy on Hpi?

OP...

Dealers are not allowed to withhold information about a car that may have affected your decision to buy that car.

Write a letter to that effect and give them 7 days to reply. Tell them after that you'll seek legal advice.

You taken finance?

First thing to do is contact your finance company and make a quality complaint.

Do it today.

Explain you wouldnt have bought the car if you'd known it had a mileage discrepancy on vehicle checks.
