Evening,

Currently have a Merc C43 saloon, 2016. I get on very well with it and would recommend it to anyone who wants a reliable, swift and relatively economical car.

A dog means I have to look at estates and the following are on my list:

E53

C63

RS4

RS6

I could push to £60k but would prefer to spend less if possible. Also a keen cyclist so fitting a bike in would be great.

Thanks for any views if anyone has experienced any of the above. My current preference is C63 S.

Be kind to the dog and get an E class or RS6 for space, but I hope you have a dog seatbelt or pooper scooper - poor thing will be getting thrown around in any of these!

Seriously though, any from your list will be brilliant.

Someone posted this in the show us your fast estates thread recently. With a budget up to £60, my money would definitely go E63s estate

How about a fast SUV? I got an X5M for ferrying the dog about in and its a very good all-rounder with a cavernous boot and a very nice interior with the full leather

I had considered the panamera as a decent option, certainly the hybrid gives a useful upside in mpg. The E53 offers 4WD vrs the C63.

Considered this but I don’t tend to change cars that often so fancied something at least slightly different.

My initial thought was c43 estate remapped.

540i Touring is another option but that e63 looks the ticket.

What is a reasonable real world MPG on an E63? I’m pretty set on Mercedes, and to be honest on a value for money basis got to a C43 but the E63 is tempting!

This thread is a really good ownership experience. He came from a Panamera too.

To save you fishing (although it’s def worth a read) he says 27mpg on the motorway and less around town.

I have a E53. Can’t fault it. Would have love to have the E63 but I felt it’ll be too much as a daily

C class and A4 are a bit small imo. Struggle to get a bike in without removing the wheels.

One of the full size options if it was my 60k.

Real world would be mid to high 20's, the lower depreciation would help offset some of the higher fuel consumption, as a by E53's are holding there money very well & they go well too.

Depends on what sort of bike I think, my hybrid goes fairly easily into my old (S203) C Class, however my wife's Dutch bike was a pain to get in.

Personally I appreciate the smaller external size from behind the wheel, so I would want to have the smallest option which can readily accommodate the specific bike(s) I wanted to carry. I think older MTBs were fairly compact, but some of the modern ones have larger wheels so may be easier in the full size estates.

Our cls63 does low 20s around town and towards 30 on a run. Not great but not disaterous bearing in mind what it is. And better than the last generation.
The CLS listed at £34k is really expensive for what it is. Really playing on the low miles. There are cls63s facelift cars at about that money which would be a better buy. 15 plate ish.

Went for a c43 estate. Newer model. Felt odd parting with a good wedge for fundamentally the same car, however for some reason it does feel more refined.
