Among Us - Nintendo Switch Online

We got our kids a Nintendo Switch for Christmas, one of the games they got was among Us. It appears that this is an online only game and requires us to have a paid Nintendo Switch Online account of some sort to be able to play it.

Currently only I have a basic/free account for Nintendo Switch Online, the boys have local profiles on the Switch itself but they don't have individual accounts for the online service. If they want to be able to play online with their own friends am I right in thinking I will have to create a "family group" and give them online accounts in that, then pay for the family account for the online services? Presumably because the actual Switch device is shared between them, we can't just get them their own, individual online accounts as the device can only be associated with one "main" online account?
