I have noticed some paint bubbling and a small amount of rust on the windscreen pillar at roof level of my 1996 993 Targa. Has anyone else had this problem and given that there is still time for a claim to be made on the 10 year bodywork guarantee has anyone tried making a claim, and how successful were they?

Additionally is this likely to be transmitted through the pillar further down?

I had a microscopic spot on the scuttle panel on my car and the OPC did it under the 10 year body warranty last year - close call as my car is a '95.

Bloody hell how depressing - I didn't expect the old tin worm to be an issue early in the life of these later generation porkers!

Out of curiosity, does the Porsche 10 yr anti-corrosion warranty apply even if the cars are no longer being serviced by OPCs?

Unless its obviuosly been repainted/repaired and hence the cause no worry who worked on it .........u are supposed to have had the book stamped by main agent at appropriate stages , mine was ..........almost! Mr Porsche's man came round with a micrometer to measure depth of paint and we agreed flexing had caused rubber to wear edge off paint ....after teflon tape fittede no recurrence

My car has a slightly broken f opc sh, all from different dealers, I'm the 9th owner, no stamps to say the body had been inspected at any time and they did the work with absolutely no fuss.

They seem to be pretty good with the original 10 year Porsche anti-corrosion warrenty.

But be careful with subsiquent OPC repairs that carry the "lifetime guarantee"...

As these must be checked and stamped every year following the work or its worthless!

As I understand the current Porsche GB position the 10 year guarantee only covers ACTUAL HOLES in the bodywork.

Now..... you might take the view that there is an inevitability of holes once corrosion is observed if it is not treated. You might also conclude, on carefully reading the Long Life Guarantee wording, that nowhere is it explicit regarding the presence of holes as opposed to indications of corrosion. You might even have had some previous corrosion problems/paint defects dealt with under warranty.

Any (or all) of the above will mean that you have difficulty in understanding the above Porsche GB position.

Will be interested to know how you get on.

interesting as I have a similar minor buddling on the a pillar as well on my 96 targa......

better have it looked at before those 10 years are up....

although will have to see if they do it ? in view of its recent non-opc history

Hmmmm better correct my earlier post which was based on my recollection that the wording of the Porsche Long Life Guarantee was vague (perhaps deliberately so). Have just dug out the service book and in fact the specific wording of clause 1 is "a guarantee against rust holes in the bodyshell of the car for a period of 10 years from date of delivery".

There are the usual riders excluding damage arising from traffic accidents or mechanical (eg stone chips) causes, the requirement for proper maintenance, annual inspection yadayadayada.

So the nub of the issue is going to be: is the guarantee against rust holes actually being present within ten years. Or, is it a guarantee against manufacturing defects, detected within ten years, which are inevitably going to lead to rust holes.

From personal experience and looking at the posts of others it would appear that Porsche GB interpret the wording of the guarantee inconsistently. Also there is adequate precedent for the second and broader interpretation.

Most unusual bit is that rs guarantees actually talk of 3 years only ...................in case anyones thinking of trying it they wont pay out on door frames or rear quarter trims bubbling ............and they do !!!!!!!

Vic, point well made - I had a problem on the driver's door sill and they said P**s off. But they did fix blisters on the rear scuttle and OSR quarter at the trim.

I think they just toss a coin when they get a claim!
