The top of the M3 is a smart motorway, I have noticed cameras that look like these in this link,
https://www.speedcamerasuk.com/hadecs-3.htm
So tonight on my journey home between junction 3 and 4 on the M3 there was a accident, red X was turned on 3 lanes and on 3 to 4 sets of gantries.
I moved moved over as soon as I saw the orange move over arrows.
Lots of drivers kept going and went under the red X and I saw cameras flashes but couldn't make out where it was from as it was dark.
Are those cameras used for speeding and for red X enforcement?
If yes I can see a lot of drivers getting points and fines as the rule is only a few years old so I don't think many realize.

Have seen this a lot on the m25 where idiots ignore the red x, how stupid are these people who go full
Speed 70+ in the rain or dark towards an unknown incident?
Worst thing is TFL/ vosa are spending millions on radio Adverts telling the thicko’s to pull in when they see the red X and also Go Left when they break down - how are so many people so dumb ?

What I saw last night was people trying to get across then not being let in so decide to go further down to try and get in.Speed 70+ in the rain or dark towards an unknown incident?

Some just sat behind red X and waited until someone did let them in.

That's because they had plenty of notice to move over and ignored it until they saw the red X.Some just sat behind red X and waited until someone did let them in.

The rule of not driving past a red 'X' has existed since the late 60's/early 70'sIf yes I can see a lot of drivers getting points and fines as the rule is only a few years old so I don't think many realize.
The enforcement by cameras is the only thing that has changed over the last few years.

So glad they've started enforcing this although should be 6 points just like phone use.
Not as if the red x just appears out of the blue
The problem is not as widespread - ie drivers who habitually drive with their phone probably encounter a red X very infrequently. Not as if the red x just appears out of the blue
But the consequences could be far worse.
I totally agree about enforcement - glad to see agencies moving beyond just "speed" when it comes to camera enforcement.
I'd actually move them directly to the magistrate on a dangerous driving prosecution, not fart round with points.

but because the majority of road users are thick and utterly petty about people "pushing in", merge in turn does not work in this Sceptred Isle
a case in point, a number of roads in Leicester specifically say merge in turn but you always get someone who messes it all up by not allowing it for the sake of a few metres (or yards if you're a boomer)

Are RedXs the same as merge in turn AT the Lane Closure (rather than “as soon as you see the Change Lane” signs)? If that’s the case it seems incredibly stupid to me and very risky.
If they didn't want you to use the lanes were the move over arrows where then they would put red X's there instead

As a boomer, we had metric units from 6th form onward, and used SI units from when I started college and thereafter at work, as did our US colleagues in case you are interested - you’re probably not as you probably deal in fables.Pica-Pica said:

Red X transgression is effectively speeding. Set the limit to 0 mph for that lane and flash away. What I want to know is "Is it permitted to cross a red X'd lane to exit the motorway?", assuming there isn't a pileup across the exit. Common sense would say yes, a nearby camera might disagree.
