Social media is boring
Discussion
....at the moment, how is it for you? I gave it some thought.
I go through periods of being bored with it, I wonder if those periods are always at the same time of the year and if they are becoming more frequent.
Maybe it's because it's nearly the end of Winter and i've been inside for too long. I've got plenty to do inside and out, I can go outside, there is lots to do and it's not raining or windy.
I think maybe that the internet is becoming more boring on the whole. Lots of community FB pages are 'Public' so people daren't say anything edgy as it comes up on their friends feeds. Moderation levels are higher now than ever. Local FB pages are full of nothing but ads and people talking about the dullest of things; dog muck, lost parcels etc.
PH and other forums are also dull. The same old threads doing the rounds, lots of stupid questions asked. Are we all bored with it at this time of the year?
Yes I know the answer is to just put it down and go do something useful and/or interesting instead.
Have I/we become too dependent on it for entertainment?

Wikipedia's random article feature can be interesting.

It is how the algorithms make it work. You look up subject X so forever afterwards you are offered the same stuff. Even around that all the paid advertising sites will be offered first.
Finding anything original but not loony is very difficult. There is also a lot of shadow banning. Try finding stuff that criticises china. Put in a search that receives 5 million responses, then try and find out what number 784,211 is. You can only see the first few.

Internet is boring, or social media/online news is boring?
I can spend hours reading and researching topics online, its full of interesting stuff.
It's a very pertinent question and yes, social media is boring me, not so much the internet.I can spend hours reading and researching topics online, its full of interesting stuff.
I agree, the internet is a good (but not all or final) resource of knowledge to research.
It seemed such a free open place with good intentions when I first started using it.
These days it’s some turgid corporate borefest and scammers paradise.
Those that hold great power over what we are allowed to search for and view are happy to take advertising revenue from anyone willing to pay.
Everything that first appeared with good intentions has been hijacked and turned sour.

'The internet', almost by definition, can't be 'boring'.
Social Media (which is part of, but not all of 'the internet') is somethgin different and, IMO, has never had any merit, beyond subject-matter and discussion forums.
This is the only one I'm on. And yes, it's often boring because people like me seem to think strangers are interested in their uninvited opinions.

Man's most important learning tool since the printing press and he's bored.
The OP is not looking in the right places, and because of
his limited intellect has only scratched the surface of
the internet's vast resource of information.
Then there's porn.............

I deleted the Twitter app on my phone for pretty much the same reason.
I'll still log in and check it once a day but being constantly connected and scrolling several times a day was just boring.
Haven't used Facebook in years but YouTube is keeping me entertained for the moment.
I thought that the problem with Titter was supposed to be that it was all full of venom and nastiness? But for you it's boring? I appreciate the two things are both bad though. To the OP - I'm pleased that PH doesn't have "edgy" stuff. I want it to be moderated and am never bothered that anything I might want to say might get repeated somewhere.
And more generally, I think the internet is what you make of it. Including things like Facebook and Twitter. If you have problems with them it might just be the way you are using them.
