So I’ve returned to a V8 after a break of 2 years since selling my beautiful BMW E64 645ci.

I got fed up being sensible and this S5 really did make me realise what I’ve been missing after a couple of semi-sensible cars in between, a BMW 330d F30 and a MK6 Golf GTi, the latter being the worst car I’ve EVER owned!

The Spec:

2008 Audi S5 B8 4.2L V8 auto, 354bhp Quattro.
It has Approx 88k mileage and cost me £9300.

The wheels have been recently refurbished in gloss black and it wears 4 x 255/35/19 Michelin Pilot sport 4S, spacers also added.

A honeycomb front grille has been fitted and black badges front and rear.

A nice little addition is KW V3 coilovers, which are very comfortable to my surprise.

The exhaust has a back box delete and sounds absolutely superb.

Inside there’s a flat bottom steering wheel been added, plus a newer gear leaver knob, with red leather seats, all 4 being heated.

Issues:

I’ve just sorted the front parking sensors, the two central sensors were sat too far into the aftermarket grill, I’ve now modified it.

Creaking NSF suspension, it’s going up on the ramps soon.

Window tint, bubbles everywhere, needs removing and new tint fitting,

Adaptive headlight fault on dash, PITA!

Overall it’s a decent starting point for me to improve and enjoy.

The project starts now..

That's the 2nd V8 S5 thread just lately!

Looks great, especially that red interior. thumbup

I think KW V3s have adjustable compression and rebound so it can choose how comfy you want it to be.

Excellent choice…. but then I am biased lol

The red leather looks great. What are your bolsters like?

Someone put some choice mods on to it which will save some future money…!!!

Any history of clutch or flywheel work?

I couldn’t find another S5 V8 thread.

The red interior is quite shiny, I’ll be treating it asap.

I’ve got a reference number off mine to check they’re definitely V3, but it doesn’t seem to relate to anything I can find.
I’ve messaged KW for some parts and advice.

Same engine and model?

I have history of gearbox services but no actual repairs.

Today didn’t go as planned but nothing too major.

First up, I replaced the OEM fog lamp grilles to match the centre grill..
This needed some black spray to hide the white parts from shining through the new grilles.

My masking tape was a bit damp and caused me grief, so I used what I had.

Next up was a massive fail.

I wanted to adjust the front coilovers down Approx 10mm to start with. The OSF was easy, but the NSF had been hacked at by a previous owner or garage and there was nothing left of the lower locking ring and no matter what I tried I could not release it.

I’ve message KW to see if so can get the part to rebuild it.

Also, I wanted to change the rear spacers, but one of the nuts which holds the spacer to the hub is rounded and stuck tight.
I’m not 100% sure what to do about it yet.

On your rounded over wheel nut, find a decent wheel shop that has welding capabilities and ask them to weld another nut onto the knackered one.
They’ll have had experience of doing it before and will be a breeze for them.

Before you go crazy with the welding equipment, I'd look into these.

Twist Socket Set Lug Nut Remover... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B082H8NVBQ?ref=ppx_pop...

And
MAXPOWER Breaker Bar 1/2-Inch... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07WGF4P14?ref=ppx_pop...

One shop over tighten one of my wheel nuts and the top of the nut was sheared off. I bought the two items above and a hammer to hammer the flute onto the nut to bite on really well.

Then some grunt was needed and bingo it came off.

I’ve just bought a nut removal socket set. If that fails I will take it in.

That’s the exact set I’ve just bought. I also already have that long bar.
One of the issues with these spacer bolts is the hex about half the size of a normal wheel bolt head as it sits inside the recess of the spacer.

Never one to teach people to suck eggs, so apologies in advance if this is the case….
Your shiny leather needs a deep clean, the shiny is body grease and oils from previous occupants etc.
As a starting point I’d heartily recommend Dr Leather wipes, follow the instructions to a T and they’ll make the leather like new.
If any of the colour has worn then ColourLock products work fantastic. I restored the interior of my previous S5 to as new. Link to my old S5 thread below, hopefully the images still work since Photobucket bombed…!!!

If any images are missing and something is of interest in there I can rehost elsewhere

Great cars!

Can second the Dr Leather wipes recommendation. In fact, I think it was from Mr 89's thread that i first tried them. They also work a treat on steering wheels.

This isn't Calvin's off YouTube is it? lol

I've been tempted by one of these but believe they suffer pretty badly from carbon build up...

Nice colours.

Thanks for the mention of the Dr Leather wipes. I'd not heard of them before.

That one was silver….

Not exactly a thing to suffer with. Just a maintenance aspect. I’d rather a model suffer with something mechanical than chronic rust etc

I love the V8 S5s. How would you say it's similar or different, as a V8 coupe, from the 645?

I'm jumping off the leasing train when my current car goes back and one of these is right up on my list of what to get.

I'll be watching with interest how you get on, love the red leather.
