Chimaera rear standard brakes wanted to convert S2 anyone?

Apparently the standard early Chimaera rear brake discs and callipers are a bolt on for an S2

Suit someone doing an upgrade

Cash / transfer ready if anyone has some?

Cheers

Not quite that simple, you'll need the bearing carrier with two lugs to bolt the caliper to ( and I think that requires a little machining) or an adapter plate. And a different handbrake cable and some flexi brake pipes wink

Here are some calipers apparently in "good used condition", look like two pieces of rusty crap to me wink New discs aren't very expensive

Type this into your search engine "pistonheads TVR S Series rear disc conversion"

Thanks for reply

In this post the ‘foxy…’ third last from bottom says he used the early Chim rear brakes as a simple bolt on.., maybe different setup on early models using some of the same S series bits..

Other posters have different solutions..

Do you think the early chim bits wouldn’t fit ?

Third to last post is by me and in in his post below Fozzy, not Foxy, ends up saying that he used some brackets from MK Sportscars. This is how I did mine except i made my own brackets ( as you will know if you found all the old PH threads) and to my mind is a far simpler way to do it

Simple sounds appealing thanks for link, so if I get those brackets, and a pair of callipers from biggred or similar place, am I right in saying I would need pads, v8 s handbrake cable & flexible brake hoses? Anything else you would suggest for a shopping list? Just for the rears

Would like like to do a ‘how to’ with a few pics etc when doing it. The chap in my area Andrew has a website ‘tvrgit’ and has done a few guides to work over the years, something like that. I saw the wiki page for the disc sizes etc from Facebook forum, unless anywhere else I could post it up..

Sold my old green s2 in 2012 ish, sure I remember your user name from back then. Just got a new blue s2 on Friday. Nice 430 mile, 7.5 hour drive. Son insisted on roof off on Sunday & some nice pics in sunlight

You need to make sure the calipers, carriers, discs and brackets are 'matched'.

There are two sizes of rear discs - I want to say 253 and 273mm but I am a bit befuddled after my recent helath issues. BOTH are available in solid and vented versions.

The calliper carrier is the same for all four configurations (253 solid, 253 vented, 273 solid & 273 vented).

The calliper is either 'narrow' for the solid discs. So the 253 and 273 solid discs use the same calliper. Or 'wide' for the vented discs - 253 and 273 vented.

The Ford OEM bearing calliper with the tabs comes in two sizes. One size for both the 253 disc set up and, not surprisingly, one with taller tabs for the 273 disc set up. This also applies to brackets bolted to the drum carriers. That is, longer tabs for either of the 273 set ups.

Hand brake cable is the same for all four set ups. I would recommend saving a fortune and getting the Caterham De-dion cable which is the correct length and a quater the price of the TVR labelled ones or getting one made up.

I would also recommend Philpot's mod of putting a thin slot (a smidge wider than the actual handbrake cable, the inner metal wire) in the calliper to allow the handbrake cable to slip through it to aid install, uninstalling.

I wouldn't get too hung up on it coming from a TVR. It is all common as muck Ford stuff. Well used to be common, I'm down to my last four sets of tabbed bearing carriers biggrin

Wherever you buy your calipers from make sure they are complete with carriers and price quoted is outright not exchange wink

Thanks lads👍

Im looking at the front brake upgrade as an option also, do you think there is much weight penalty with going from 240mm discs to 260mm or 283mm discs at the front of the S2?

Reading some bits online some have said the extra wheel weight negatively effects handling when going to bigger brakes, some people had gone back to stock after going bigger..🤔

On an S Series specifically? I guess that's you asking same question on FB?

Going back to rear discs I have recently sold some calipers for vented discs to a chap who likes his track days. His solid rear discs and calipers are for sale. I can message you his number to Whats Ap him if you are interested?

Nearer £20 if you do the maths properly winkbiglaugh

Nice to see the TVR brand have come down from the heady prices of a few years back. Although the Caterham has gone up, someone must have let on smile

I've not looked at postage costs but to me £10.42 is bit nearer a tenner than 20 quid tongue out

Even better. Racetech are £55 plus VAT. Although different 'TVR' part numbers.
