Help with a claim after an accident
Discussion
Hi all,
Just posting on here just for a bit of advice really. I unfortunatly had an accident last week involving a company recovery lorry. The truck pulled on in front of me as it was joining a main road (it was turning right out of the junction so would be heading in the opposite direction as i was traveling.
Unfortunantly i cought the driver frront side of the truck as it came out and i coudntt stop in time.
I got the details of the third party insurance details and rang to log a claim last thursday so i could get my car fixed. Ive not yet heard anything back so just wanted to see if this was normal timescales to wait and they would contqct me later in the week?
I have never claimed directly from tp before and ideally want to avoid using an accident management company as they can rinse insuramce with hire fees and inflated repair costs.

I've claimed from third party insurance before and it went fine - but that was after they admitted liability.
I may have missed it, but you don't seem to have said they have? You may think they are liable - and they may well be - but unless they agree, they won't let you claim through them anyway.

Speak to your own insurers & let them sort it out.
You are not the customer of the other party's insurers & they have no incentive to get on with it.
There will be the usual 'If you do that your insurance will go through the roof' but most - all? - insurers require you to notify them of such things even if you aren't making a claim.
If you choose not to inform them then it may well be that they will know about it anyway due to your claim against the other party which could lead to awkward questions at your renewal.
IME of several non fault bumps involving various family members it made no difference.
I have done two 'claim from the 3rd party' myself with family cars that were TPF&T & both were a PITA - one had their office locally & I found it speeded things up no end if I kept going in & making a nuisance of myself & the other finished up with the Ombudsman over the value of the car & that took 9 months to get a sensible offer,

I went in to the back of someone before Christmas. Within 30 minutes of me reporting the accident my insurers had contacted the other party to make arrangements to drop off a courtesy car and pick theirs up to fix it.
My suspicion in your case would be that the other party has not reported it and if they have hasn’t accepted blame.
You could use an accident management company, rack up significant hire costs, and hope that fault doesn’t get apportioned to you. Or you could contact your own insurance company who will probably take your car in and provide a courtesy car whilst they get it fixed
