BUGGER! Need help please.
Discussion
I thought today was going to be a good one - oh how wrong I was.
The weather was atrocious as I battled the M25 and M3 to meet with Carl at Racing Green to get the alarm sorted, then on the way home the wipers packed up, as did the stereo.
Having managed 5miles of the M25 without wipers in monsoon conditions I managed to get off the motorway, well I checked the fuses and sure enought it had blown a 25A one, that I duly replaced, it then blew that, and a third.
Now, I'm wet through and pi**ed off, so a call to the AA bought out a couple of really helpful chaps who after an hour or so, bodged a repair so I could get home, that repair consisting of 2 fly leads a fuse and direct connection of the wiper motor to the battery!
The AA guy diagnosed the problem as being the wiper motor, firstly has anyone experienced this before, secondly andy other suggestions and thirdly can someone PLEASE email me the Electrical section of the Service Manual in PDF form so I can check the wiring diagrams.
Really need your help guys, I'm booked into a track day at Brands on Thursday and need to get this sorted ASAP.
Thanks again
Tim :(

Doesn't make sense, surely if the motor if faulty and drawing excessive current (to blow the fuse in the first place) this bodge will just keep blowing fuses too? Sounds more like thay have bypassed a switch/wiring fault.

Tim,
I can send you a PDF file, however whoever did the original scanning must have been rushed, as the quality is very poor, also even as a zipped file, it's still 11MB, so hope you've got broadband!!!

That was rather the conclusion I'd come to, but tbh I've had such a crap day I'm not thinking very straight!

Hi Tim, I'm afraid I can't help much with your fault, but would like to echo Hughesie2's comments about 'Rainex'. If you're having problems, or not, rainex is brilliant stuff.
Also, not sure if you've seen this thread but there are a few of us going to that Brands track day..

Be good to see you there, i'll even bring my bottle of Rainex just in case.

Okay, I've had my head under the dash and can't see anything obviously wrong, but what happens is that I put in a new 25A fuse, turn on the master key, hit the ignition button (once), the wipers then do a single sweep of the screen and then the fuse blows.
I'm not brilliant at electrics, so can anyone out there shed some light on the problem, Is it the wiper motor?
Thanks guys

I'm going for the sympathy vote today, whilst removing the ribbon cable the connector between the two cables has broken in two and the fuel gauge has fallen apart.
So, I'm going to have a big drink and tackle it again in the morning.
Last time I had a car that bits broke as soon as you touched them it had a BL badge on it!!
Tim
PS: Haven't checked the plugs tbh, haven't managed to do that many miles, I was going to check them after the run down to Al Mellings' talk but rather unfortunately the alarm malfunction put pay to that! Aghhhhhh.

Well, there is a conclusion...
...firstly thanks to Keith at Waldonway for his help, and the loan of the 'spare' control box to test.
The problem is the Wiper Motor control box, so now I have one on order and as they are a made to order part, god knows when it'll turn up. Have opened up the unit and visually there's nothing wrong, which is annoying to say the least. Never mind, at least I now know what the problem is.
