Anyone using Pirellis?

MOT is due and need 2 front tyres. Have S03's on at the moment but apparently they are in short supply. Local Protyre can supply Toyo Proxes and Pirelli PZero in 225/50/15. Pirelli dont seem to do a 245/45/16 to fit the rear but do a 225/50/16 which is not far out. Did a search and couldnt find anyone who had an opinion on the PZeros, is anyone using them?.

I had them on my old Scoob when I bought it. I didn't like them at all in the wet, but they were OK in the dry.

This was standard fitment on Ferraris for a long time:

225/50/16 was the original Griff rear tyre; IMHO it's why the rear rims are 7.5"

I have them on my Griff.

No major complaints. Not the best steering feel or handling progression, but then the Griffith isn't a precision tool in that respect, anyway. They've never done anything unpredictable or tried to kill me yet, though!

Me too, can't remember which ones without looking - P7000 maybe. They're directional anyway.

They're reasonbably hard wearing, so not the stickiest, but they're predictable and progressive. I like them. I had s-03s on a mk2 MR2 and though they were shite. So soft they balled under hard driving and led to unpredictable break away. Never again.

I had P Zero's up front when I bought the car (PAS so 225/50/ZR15). It may be unfair to pass comment as they were half worn and suggesting slight under-inflation at that point. However, they are generally regarded as a good tyre and I found a confidence inspiring level of grip. They did seem very prone to tramlining though and the steering response sharpened noticeably with speed to the point of losing precision: the slightest input at times would have you heading for the ditch or into oncoming. I'd better point out that the steering/suspension geometry had been checked and marginal adjustments made as I suspected some measure of toe-in being the principal cause. Got Toyo's all round now: no more white knuckles. I think a general consensus'd point you toward the Toyos.

Whatever you do, don't put Falkens on the front unless you want it to handle like a Fiesta. They may fit but they're rubbish.

I've just changed all mine to Toyo's what size are yours and what pressure do you put in?

225/50/15 with a good 24 PSI at the sharp end and 245/45/16 with a fat 25 PSI at the rear; to be honest, blowing any harder makes me see stars.

I'm monitoring the wear patterns. The tyres havn't been subjected to track use and the rears have done about 7500 miles: they appear to be wearing evenly. The front tyres have done around 3000 and so perhaps need a few more miles before I can be objective. However, I know from previous threads on the matter that there are those using pressures a couple of PSI either side of what feels good for me.

I had Pirelli's all round as they were the only thing Protyre had in stock (puncture).

The grip pretty well but they look awfull (especially the 15"s). You can't wear the damned things out either, 20,000 miles on the fronts! I only replaced the rears because one has a cut in it.

Just had 2 Toyo Proxes fitted for £230. Will check the pressures as expect they are way too high. Looking forward to breaking them in!.

Nup, just send me the money instead. Car booked in for a front end respray that week, so it'd be a toss up between the two. Lets face it, a full-on blast up that way from Cornwall'd cost about the same as a paint-job. Will post a pic' on my profile when finished; assuming they don't use a 2" fire hose and a yard-broom in its application.
