In desperate need of some winter sun I've got a few days in Tenerife booked in March, with a couple of days diving already secured for something to do, but can anyone recommend what else is worth doing? I won't have a car, but it's not a problem to hire one for a day or 2 if that helps get about. Am staying in the middle of Puerto de la Cruz. Not really a "sit around the pool" kinda person.

We went back in November, we enjoyed:

Driving up and over Teide
Going to the Zoo (admittedly more for the kids but was great)
Visit to Los Gigantes
Road trip around the island just taking in random places, (a fave was Masca)

We had young children with us so didn't do a great deal more

If you hire a car, beware thieves.

Once I had a camera stolen from the boot of a locked (I think) Panda, in the middle of nowhere, near Teide. Locked when I got back, only found out later.

Second time was from a locked Corsa and I think it was a capture device used as it was locked when I got back. Nothing worthwhile stolen bar a couple of bread rolls and prescription glasses.

Teide is a nice drive.

As others have said Teide. The landscape is like being on Mars.

Masca is a must - head up late morning and get lunch before the coaches arrive !
