I am getting nowhere choosing a SUV to buy . In my price range half are Cat S or N. Autotrader or E Bay . Local traders to me are very very expensive , in West Sussex. Modern SUV's appear to have engines smaller than motorcycles I have owned . I have a set of criteria and would welcome any real life experiences of ownership to help please . Thanks in advance .
Mid 50's retired couple .
Two grandchildren car seats in the back twice a week , many of them are small in the back with front seat back .
Will be our best car , we have two other small cars in the household.
Two dogs infrequently in this car .
Like to do European driving trips .
I am 6'3'' tall
Open to Diesel or Petrol.
Automatic.
Not keen on the 1.2 litre twin turbo tiny engines in some of these .
Not badge sensitive
Euro 6 as I visit mother in new zone once a week
£20,000 ish
3 poss. 4 years old
Thank you

As mentioned above a skoda karoq is a great shout.
Legroom in the rear is acceptable, if you get SEL spec, rear seats are entirely removable even.
Alternatively a VW Tiguan is slightly larger, with more rear legroom and a bigger boot.
Has the adaptive cruise control as standard (great for long road trips)
Left field choice would be MG HS

CX-5. Petrol would be a 2l. Diesel would be a 2.2l. Sport Nav would be a nice enough trim with heated leather and radar cruise.
Thanks. We actually sat in one today at a dealer near to us . There is lots I like about it. The real disappointment was rear space with the drivers seat back. It's really tight in the back. Thanks for the suggestion. I liked the front . I fear it's too small in the back

As you can see there are lots of options & none are Cat N/S's, all have low mileage & a decent amount of go so long or short journeys will be effortless, they're also nicely spec'd
Petrol or Diesel pick the drivetrain that suits YOUR needs.

We have chosen : VW Tiguan it is , we have deals set up on two cars , and need to decide .
2018 cars sub 35k miles .
One is approved VW stock and therefore has two years warranty albeit with a fair bit of exclusions. One is a known local trader with decent reputation but no VW warranty for 2 years . Local dealer £2200 cheaper for same car .
Part exes are near same from both .
Are there really good warranties they can be bought outside of dealership that are worth the paper they are written on ?
Years ago I had a BMW with approved warranty it was fantastic and it cost them a fortune .
I believe the warranties from independent gagarage are fairly poor
Any views please , welcomed .

You can get a VW extended warranty
https://insurewithvolkswagen.co.uk/extended-warran...
It was very reasonable when we had a Golf GTE, comprehesive cover for ~ £220 p.a.

As above see how much it'll cost to add the warranty & make a decision from there.2018 cars sub 35k miles .

Good choice with the Tiguan. We've had a 2013 Tdi from 6 months old it's now on 164000 miles and going strong. 4 springs and a few suspension bushes are all its needed over routine servicing.
Likewise, we have a MK1 and a MK2 Tiguan both 2.0tdi 4Motion with plenty of mile son the clock (well over 100k on both). Not had any issues, not great on fuel though (40mpg).Nothing wrong with a Tiguan. We moved to a Kia for the 7 year warranty but quickly realised that the cars were simply better than VAG for less money and much better equipment.
Our Xceed 1.5t DCT was £20k new, albeit slightly smaller than a Tigua. Immense value although I think they have gone up over the past year or so .
