Hi All,

Today I was lucky enough to attend a GTD40 Owners Track Day at Goodwood. Took along my new Pentax Optio S5z.

Hopefully they will resize ok. Been playing about with cropping etc just to see what I can do.

Many Thanks to PHer CWK for the invite

These are some of my favourites:

I think the first and last ones are great! Really like them. Why is it that any car in Gulf colours looks so damn desirable!

Word of advice, resize them to max 750px wide to avoid forum resizing issues.

I'll try and resize them tommorrow when i'm at the office. (Left my laptop there which has all the software set up ready to go!)

I was trying to "pan" with the car, need more practise though. Got lots of pictures of half a car!

Some nice pics in there (when the 2MB monsters eventually arrived, only to be squished by the PH-image-munger). But promise you'll scale them down to a more PH friendly size (750px wide) as the pages are coming in at 20+MB.

#21 is my favourite.

Edited to add:
Must type faster next time - was distracted by pages 2 and 3...

As my mum always says "Its not what you know, Its WHO you know!" lol

One of the cars is owned by a PHer so I got invited along.

Brilliant fun!

Some really excellent pics there and the action stuff is highly commendable given the weather conditions and that that it was a first time experience. Hard to tell!

Certainly an SLR is desirable, but it is amazing what can be achieved with something that fits easily in a shirt pocket!

My view is that even if you have an SLR you won't have it with you all the time. But you probably will have a pocket device. So getting a little practice at the extremes of its capability will always be useful when a special opportunity occurs out of nowhere and the SLR is at home ...

Yeah it was good fun (apart from getting wet that is!)

I've got lots of shots of half a car and some of just the track!

I found it easier to only just part of the zoom (it gave me more of a chance of getting the car in the shot!) then to crop the photo afterwards!

The half cars and 'track only' shots are quite normal, believe me. (Even with an SLR sometimes!)

Part zoom certainly offers a better chance for complete content but naturally you lose quality if you need to crop and enlarge very far. Also the same with an SLR of course!

On the other hand if you are pre-focusing (for faster shutter response) the lesser zoom level normally gives a wider depth of field tolerance (though only if you are talking consistent ISO and f numbers I guess) which is quite useful when you don't have a static subject or even subject position. So its another way that the number of in-focus shots can be improved albeit at the risk of smaller images.
