Hi, wonder if anyone has had a similar experience with an insurance issue. Long story short, bought a static caravan in April 2022. In November 2021 the van was struck by a fallen tree at the rear, the damage was repaired in February 2022. In October 2022 the roof leaked on the roof side that wasn’t touched by the contractor, the loss adjuster has informed me that my claim on the existing policy isn’t valid as the original contractor has to be given the opportunity to fix or establish what has caused the leak.
I understand that the original contractor should be given the opportunity to attend, however I’m unsure that the insurance company can just stand by the expectation that they will leave it to the original contractor and myself to fix the repair. Sorry for the long post.

Presumably you need to establish that the leak is caused by the original issue and needs additional work to fix? Then the insurance company might be inclined to pay for it.

Are you claiming off your insurance? Surely they won't payout on damage that was caused before you owned and insured the caravan?

The loss adjuster informed me that my existing policy can’t be claimed on as they are insisting it has to be established that the issue either relates to the original damage or has been caused by another reason.

Which seems the sensible reason as to why the original contractor who will have the full details of what was done need to be involved.
