Insurance - online dashboard shows no cost to change...then
Discussion
This is for a motorbike. The insurer has a simple dashboard. I entered the planned registration for the bike and it actually showed -37p cost to change so I thought ok I'll switch on the day.
New bike is one group higher (12 v 11) and 200cc less (1000 v 1200).
So yesterday I pressed the button to change and it went red.
I rang the insurer and they said apologies no we can't.
Comparison sites show twice the price to change which for a rider with 11 months experience is alot. £600 extra.
Now as I needed to insure asap as I was stood outside the dealer on a very cold day the current insurer said do you want to cancel? Well I had to.
A short while later I went back in to screenshot the page and due to cancelled policy that page has now gone.....hindsight..
What comeback would there be? I wouldn't have bought the bike (although it's fantastic to ride) if I had known.
Can I compel them to reveal their data analytics that would show what I'd seen on my login?
I can ask them to review all recorded calls but at the point I pointed this out I was asked 'do you have screenshots'? Again that should have prompted me.
What could the ultimate outcome be?

I am going to guess absolutely nothing as you aren't insured by them, they have no need to tell you anything.Even if they were forthcoming with the info you want, as they can't be forced to insure you then what good would it do?
Am I reading this right?
11 months bike experience and a high group 1000cc bike is an insurance problem.
That should not be news to anyone.
Should they have stood behind their quote? Well maybe.
But what happens at renewal time?
Absolutely bonkers not to have looked at comparison sites and got proper quotes for ongoing insurance.
On a more general note, if you are changing anything, address, vehicle, job.... my advice would be to get quotes from other providers in advance of speaking to your current insurer. They can have you over a barrel with changes.
