Morning all,

I’ve got around £500 from work to use on any kind of training I fancy. I was thinking it would be great to have some formal car maintenance/ repair training as opposed to my usual bodge it from YouTube approach…

Does anyone know of a 1 or 2 week ‘intensive course’? Location isn’t important as I can additional funding for travel and accommodation.

Cheers

(Please move if this is in the wrong place!)

I’d find a welding course, spannering can be picked up with a Haynes manual and a weekend on the drive.

Problem with welding is it takes half an hour to learn and a lifetime to master. Unless OP is going to weld regularly, he'll never be particularly good. He certainly won't be welding car panels or making structural welds after a week's training, which makes it kind of pointless to my mind.

I temper this by saying I did a welding course just before COVID, but I do actually weld reasonably often (albeit still fairly poorly), so not only am I a hypocrite, but I'm wrong too. laugh

Short version of what I'm trying to say is it'll only be worthwhile if he does it often enough afterwards. I could have just said that but after typing all that I'm not deleting! laugh

I agree. Courses teach you the basics, but you are constantly learning and improving. Different area, but I found that with lime plastering.

Whilst I would love to learn to weld, I definitely wouldn’t have much use for it in the near future… not sure a car park under an apartment block is the ideal place to be doing it

£500 will be more like a 2 day course than a 2 week one.

Any suggestions for a 2 day one then?
