Singapore stop-over

Landing at changi at 5.35pm (local time) and not taking off again until 1.15am (local)

They used to do a free tour of the city which took 4 hours, COVID put a cabosh to that.

Any tips on how to do it DIY? Places that I need to see etc, don't want to push it so need to be back with 2 hours-ish spare

how long is your onward leg?

i never bother going into the city. crowne plaza transit hotel is a far better option. pack your swimmers in hand luggage. have a dip, a shower and a snooze, a few cold beers and edible food, then head back out.

When i eas in Sing just before Christmas I was amazed how long immigration took, with the covid registration both in and out, not sure how long you would actually get in the city.

crikey. by the time you get thru Immigration, catch a metro to downtown, a quick beer then back again. but at least you might see the lovely lights around the Marina

if you go through immigration then stay around the airport, the Jewel waterfall and shopping area is really good, loads of cafes, shops and places to eat. Will soon pass the time.

Jewel is cool to see, but in reality is all just western stores etc. My top to eat at singapore airport is the staff canteen which is actually open to the public, and is a hawker center with loads of cool stalls and super cheap places to eat.

The free Singapore city tour returns this week after three years. If your layover is at least five-and-a-half hours long (and less than a day), you can register in advance for a free sightseeing tour. Alternatively, just turn up at the well-signposted desk with your inbound and outbound boarding passes.
There is a menu of 2h30m tours, including “Changi Precinct” (exploring the north of the island) at 9am and “City Sights” at 12 noon. You must clear passport control, but that is normally very swift; your checked baggage, if any, stays in transit.
