New Log Book Delivery Timescale
Discussion
I am waiting for a log book for a recently purchased second hand car. The DVLA website always says wait 4 weeks before contacting us, but in real terms I have waited anywhere between 4 days and 3 weeks in the past.
I couldn’t see a thread for what I propose, so I thought it might be useful for people to update this thread. Date you bought a car, date the logbook arrived along with a rough idea where you are in the country. We will all have a rough idea of the waiting time from the DVLA at any point in time.
For my recent purchase it is
Bought: 08/03/23
Log book received: TBA
Area: Essex
I will update when I receive the log book and hopefully fellow PH’ers will also update this and find it useful.

Bought: 15/02/23
Dealer actually registered sale online with DVLA: 09/03/23
Logbook received: 11/03/23
Area: Cambridgeshire
If the seller does it online I think it's pretty quick, if by post it can be weeks.
I'd note that you can go onto https://vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/ and check the latest logbook date, so you can tell when they've actually printed it and you're just waiting for the post.
Also as noted the dealer I bought the car from forgot to register the sale with the DVLA, so if I hadn't asked them then I could have been waiting indefinitely. But once they did it online it was 2 days.
