Not sure how this occurred but at the beginning of the week one of my vehicles went into a Main dealer, that has a section that specialises in German Makes.


So work was done I paid on a remote card machine which claimed failed. However on my phone (debit card I should have used credit) a notification came up the payment had gone through. I showed the chap my banking app and he checked the transaction log on the card machine which showed the last non failed payment was about 30 mins ago.

So I paid again and noticed both payments are pending so on the invoice I asked them to write about the issue which the service manager did.


I checked my bank yesterday and its no longer pending and both have gone through, however when I call the garage there accounts are disputing that it has gone through twice, they haven't called me back since.

I had exactly the same thing in a shop a year or so ago, all be it for what I suspect was a much lower figure.

I Believe it came down to a not un common IT glitch with the card payment process, I ended up having to pay a second time, also got them to write on the receipt but it was all automatically resolved in a couple of days.

Its annoying me as the service guy knew there was an issue, surely its a call to the merchant card people to check what they are showing?


They are a massive dealer in the south can't understand why they are taking the attitude I need to prove to them!

I have contacted my bank now and the guy knew exactly the transaction I wanted to dispute when went into the account! It will be refunded by end of tomorrow but he also said if they dispute it their end it could be retaken?!?>


I think as you say if there is glitch in IT coms with a wireless card machine it seems the screen says FAILED but it already gone through.


He did write on my invoice but no notes on the system apparently.


Only £120 quid as its MOT and Alignment.

Surely it's a call to your bank? After all, it's you out of pocket and not the garage.

If I am saying the payment has been take twice then they need to have a duty to speak to their card services provider?

I have called the bank above but they have said they will refund but if the dispute they may re-debit.

Then the matter is sorted. If there is a dispute and the second transaction hasn't gone through, then treat them in the same tardy can't be arsed manner that they've treated you.

My issue was A they didn't seem to think it was their issue, wanted my bank to write to them!


My bank say that if they dispute the credit they might have to recharge, so its not cut and dry

Same happened to me and I called the bank, they said that both were pending but first payment wasnt going to come out of my account. A few days later one payment had been processed and the other disappeared. I'd not worry about it till it moves from pending.

I had this when a Waitrose till crashed during payment. Just went to the service desk a few days later when both payments had cleared, showed them the banking app on the phone and they processed the refund.

This is hard work.

You and your bank can see that the transaction has gone through twice. Yes? If so, tell the bank to dispute the first transaction. The garage shouldn't dispute it, as they expect 1x payment. You have an invoice to show that too. Problem solved. It really is that cut and dry.

Too little information if you want some practical help/advice.

Perhaps if you post the dealer name and your bank details then someone can call them both and sort it for you.

What sort of "Main dealer" has a "section" that specialises in German makes? It's either a main dealer for a specific marque, or it's not a "main dealer".

And since you're "ex-job" why don't you go back to this "main dealer" with "Don't you know who I am?"

For accuracy it would have to be "Don't you know who I was?"

I waited several days because they were both pending, I have only had this issue as they have now both gone through, I had hoped like you one would clear. There merchant card system doesn't show the first payment, which seems a massive flaw in their system. Must make their accounts very interesting to reconcile!

And since you're "ex-job" why don't you go back to this "main dealer" with "Don't you know who I am?"
Its a Decent sized Nissan Main Dealer that has on the same site a garage that sells/services BMW, SKODA, AUDI & VW etc, they call it German Service centre. They also have a very good workshop with the latest Computer Wheel Alignment system.
