Anyone know about cancelling a reoccurring bank debit payment?

Lat year I set up a 6 month gym membership for my son, part of an introductory offer with first month for £1, then £18/month for following 5 months. After 4 months he moved to a different gym but as per the membership agreement I continued making the payments until the 6 months membership had expired, which it now has.

I've alerted the gym that I'm cancelling using the correct facility on their website, and received a message that the gym would contact me within 10 days, and not to cancel any payments until then. They haven't contacted me and so before the 7th months payment is made I need to cancel it.

However I notice it is a debit payment rather than a direct debit, which I dont seem to be able to cancel. Anyone know about this type of thing please?

It's likely being taken from your card as a recurring payment. Best bet is to get your bank to block the payment, which will likely trigger the gym to get in contact to resolve

Thanks, I'll try and navigate their phone system to speak to someone. Might pay a visit to the gym too to discuss.
