Sorry if this is not the correct forum…

My dad’s 2009 Ford Focus decided to eject the rear view mirror last week. Looks like the adhesive for the bracket (metal with a V on it for the mirror stalk to side into) has failed.

There is now rock hard old adhesive on both the bracket and the windscreen and I wondered what is the best way of removing it so that I can re-attach the mirror.

Many thanks.

Simple as that? Well that’s a bonus for me for today then.

Many thanks.

As above, single-edged blade removed the old adhesive.

I would recommend asking a local windscreen firm to do it. The DIY products aren't quite as good as what we used in the trade.

Good idea regarding a local windscreen firm. Sounds like a much safer option, thanks.

DIY worked for me a few years ago. Stanley blade (as suggested) to remove the remains, a quick rub of the bracket with some coarse emery, then degease both surfaces carefully with iso-propyl alcohol. Loctite Glass Bond then applied as per instructions on bottle.

The hardest bit was sitting in the car with arms outstreched holding the bracket in place until the bond had set. Wish I'd found a way of wedging it before I started!
