Taxing a car question
Discussion
My mum just got a parking eye fine (thanks Morrisons) but it’s highlighted the car is still registered to my dad who passed away last year, my mum pays the tax and insured it via direct debit and always has done.
I just found the log book and transferred the ownership over to my mum but I forgot about the road fund rules,
Does this means it’s now not taxed , does she have to set up a new direct debit ?
Usually it’s easy as a new keeper is just responsible, but she already was and still is ,
This one is confusing me and I know the whole DVLA is “working form home cause covid init” so don’t want a day on the phone if I can help it.
Cheers

Yes - the road tax ends when the ownership changes, so she needs to re-tax it from the date of transfer.
...and she didn't get a 'fine', technically she got an invoice which was addressed to a deceased person. I'd be tempted to write back to them pointing this out (without mentioning anything about who was driving the car) and asking them to reconsider.
