Not that I need one-yet!-but does anyone out there have costings/experience of clutch replacement for the speed six engine/S? Whats the "average" mileage before change ( obviously dependent on severity of use ). I havn't yet asked my dealer, so any info would be appreciated- forewarned is forearmed so they say! Thanks.

I'm pretty sure the cost of replacing the clutch should cost no more than £800 max, and NEVER go to the blood sucking main dealers for this type of job, but an independant, which should save quite a few £££s, for a more professional job!

Bit unfair there Mr W. Not all dealers fit your type casting, nor do all Indies.

What the hell's my bonnet got to do with it??? FYI, I will be using the same bodyshop again the next time I have a stone chip respray, for a number of reasons.
Also, for what its worth, I was quoted over £350 just to have my c/r box fitted (an hours work, or there abouts), had it done for £100 by an well respected independent.

Finally, most of my posts are with tongue set firmly in cheek, I use main dealers for services every time, but not for every job that needs doing on my car.

PS, your Saggy looks stunning!

I had to have the clutch replaced on my Tamora, 2 weeks after I bought it second hand. The complete and utter who sold it to me, obviously spent the entire 4000 miles he drove it from new, riding the clutch, to the extent that the flywheel needed skimming as it was warped by the heat generated!!

It cost me about £800 from a main dealer.

I remember reading about that in the Tamora article in last years Sprint, as I recall, they said it had slight blueing (!!!)
Must have been an awful driver knackering a strong clutch like that in 4000 miles!

Smug Mode On

I did 160,000 miles in my Vauxhall Carlton....never needed a new clutch...went to the grave with it's original unit

Smug Mode Off

Okay so it's not a S6...but I thought I'd mention it anyway

My Tuscan was on its original clutch when I sold it with over 33,000 miles on the clock.

Chris,
Probably unfair having ago about the bonnet but the jibe was directed at the fact that it had been a two week job. In my experience this is the downside of indies - they can take for ever to do things cos they often dont carry the stock (not relevant with a paint shop though), strip the car down then have to wait for bits when they find what they need.

Your £100 gearbox change comparison should make a clutch about £100 + parts

Hope theres no hard feelings

Of course not

I guess we only talk from our own experiences, and perhaps we're sometimes guilty of shouting from the hip before thinking fully through what is written, safe to say that maybe I was guilty of that!
