Selling a car to WBAC or px-ing and retaining private plate

Hi,

I am going to be selling or px-ing my car sooner rather than later, probably in the next week. If I take the car to WBAC or px it to a dealer am I able to retain the plate, or ask them to do the paperwork to send the plate to me?

I dont want to do the paperwork today and delay the sale of my car.

2nd q down on their FAQ as regards WBAC - you can retain the plate but only if you do prior sale. They will not do the paperwork for this so if you sell to them as is you lose the plate.
Dealer is bit different but you will or should still retain the plate online yourself but you should be able to persuade them to then change the plates over to the original plate then allocated ie you shouldn’t need to.

I'd never trust anyone else to handle the plate transfer. Remove it yourself before sale.

Takes less than 10 minutes to do online. You will need to wait for the new V5 to arrive before disposing. This can take anything from 3 days - 6 weeks

As I said you should do it yourself anyway.
You can dispose of your car straight away providing the dealer is happy to wait for the V5 for the original plate to arrive which on a partex isn’t usually too much of a hardship for them.

A recent thread covered retaining a plate on part-ex. WBAC I doubt would entertain a car without a V5c so you'll need to allow a week or so to get a new one:

I purchased a car - and registered my other cars to a different address at the same time - a few weeks ago. V5s turned up in less than a week.
I then purchased a new registration from DLVA - V750 arrived in less than a week.
Put it on the car - and.... I'm sure you can guess.

DVLA seem very fast at the moment, so unless you're very unlucky it should be under a week to get a new V5.
