Hello guys.

Hopefully selling my T350 and looking to for a nice raggy... Boxster seems ideal.

Having a good look around the posts and 2001/2 S looks good for me.

This is an ebay bargain?

and 18" turbos, and cruise, and OBC, and 6CD, and ali pack, and bum warmers, and FULL leather (that one does not, see nasty plastic on doors)

just to be precise the brake fluid is a £120 option on top of £470 24k service, if the car has done low miles and not been tracked it won't be necessary according to Porsche

Mine had done 10k by year 2 so was a bit annoyed when I heard this from OPC AFTER I had paid the bill as I could have waited to year 3 or 4, probably would have done it yr 3

Thanks for the replies guys. Think my best bet is to stick with PH adds. Coming from TVR the options seem pretty overwelming. Is just about everything an option on a Boxster? What would a completey standard S come with and how does full leather differ from partial or none.

Andrew.

I too have recently come over to the other side - from a TVR Tuscan. I now have a new 987 Boxster S. I know what you mean re options and also the standard specification takes 4 sides of the price list book. With the TVR it was: engine, 2 seats, 4 wheels etc. I'm not sure what a 2001/2002 Boxster's like but this one has exceeded my expectations. I'ts a more refined comfortable everyday car but give it some stick on twisty roads and it's awesome. Something I never thought I'd say coming from a Tuscan.

std on an S:

ABS
4 airbags
climate
17" alloys
electric windows
elec htd mirrors
big red calipers with drilled discs
electric hood
elec seats backrest only
leather seats
crappy speakers in top of dash only
single CD player unit

the 2.7 came with leather sided seats only, hence partial leather upped this to full leather seats. The full leather option also adds leather to dash and doors. Full leather is less on an S as it already has full leather seats

the £32k / £38k list price of the 986 Boxster is a (bad) joke, add £3-5k to those to get a half decent spec

as a guide (and opinions differ) you should look for the following options for a 986S:

metallic
wind deflector
18" wheels
upgraded speakers (PSP or Bose)
PSM
OBC

personally wouldn't touch one without:
full leather
litronics (and clear lenses can be modded)
heated seats
CD changer
some ali bits cheer it up inside as blakc is the only decent interior colour

Excellent. Great info thank you.

Interesting what your saying bluey green (and encouraging). Ive had 3 TVRs and loved them to bits... right up to the point that they exploded in a feast of 'give me all your money'.

Im assuming (hoping) the German car doesnt do the same. Do I need to worry about this RMS I keep hearing about?

Whats OBC Adam B?

RMS not as big a problem as some make out. In young cars its worth taking out a warranty (£750 from an OPC) to cover OPC costs of fixing it. I have header of independents sorting it out for less than one year's warranty cost on older cars so...

I've had two 986S cars and neither (so far!) had the problem.

A nice spec 986S will have cost about £45K. More if it had a hardtop (£2K option) or Sat Nav (called PCM) another 2K option. Bit of a bargain at about half that eh?

The car's got a lovely spec - my last one was Lapis Blue - nice colour. It really does appear to have most of the toys.

But its not an S. The S got the 3.2L 252bhp/260bhp and also came with big brakes.

Coming from a TVR I'd have thought you'd have preferred the "driver's" toys of the 'S' rather than the "luxury spec" stuff. I reckon you'll find an S for not a lot more...

Im chuffed to bits, picking up a week on Saturday. Its a long way from where I live so have already planned a gorgeous route home...

I was very pleasantly suprised by the the performance of the 2.7 and coming from TVRs I thought I might not be.

So.. all is good, can't wait.
