I got it for free, legally, through Uni

MSDN:AA, it's the way forward. I have loads of MS software for free, legally!

Personal and work - pc at home used for accounts, development (java) and games.

What's the difference between home and pro by the way?

Presumably oem means that I need to buy a pc at the same time or are the component suppliers flexible about this?

Thanks,

Mark

Although msoft now stop automatic upgrades when it can't verify the license/product key, hence the question sadly.

Home is Pro with all the handy features removed.

So you want pro.

If you've got kids in school you can get XP Pro and Office XP for £96 the pair.

If you signup as a software partner to MS they have special deals. £199 for all the software you can eat.

Although that's £199 for a one-year license for all the software you can eat. Still a good deal, though.

So you pay 199 a year and for that you can get hold of anything you like from their software catalogue?

Have you got a url for this?

Thanks,

Mark

Google for Microsoft Partner Program

Its the MSDN subscription effectively.

You get XP, Office, SQL Server, VS.Net

All the good stuff basically.

Nope, for £199 you get XP, Office, SQL Server, Exchange, SBS, etc., but you get none of the development stuff, so no Visual Studio, no MSDN.

Unless they've been short-changing me for the last four years...

Thanks guys, I think I'll sign up to that program as that seems a pretty good deal... don't need the dev stuff as I have no intention of switching from java just yet.

Regards,

Mark

Make sure you don't have to stop using it the second you graduate!
