Rob - i'll write down my extensive knowledge of car engines, and send the matchbox off to you right away
Will check out the other link, cheers mate
(best send the box anyway gbbird, just incase
)Have a look at this (very cool) screensaver as well Bob
Engine Assembly and then Running Screensaver (40Mb)
From This website which has other stuff too

re: uploading to the web/a cd/sprint, wouldnt the web be best, where your info and pics can be shared by all? Id be interested in having a read
Sounds good! I dont suppose you could host it, and mail me a link? The bandwidth limit has been exceeded.

I'b be really interested in this, I'm trying to hold of an old RV8 engine to strip down just as a learning project
I've got a RV8 of P6 vintage clogging up the garage, it's not much use to me now as everything is fuel injected and mostly bigger that 3.5l in my cars.
You can have it for a crate of Spitfire of similar if you want, only problem is I'm in Cheshire and thats quite a way to you...may have a disco thats going to Brands Hatch in mid-november if you can wait that long?
Regards
Iain

That is more than kind, however I really fancy fuel injection. Quite like my electronics and want to also to understand this, reading books bores me so taking one to pieces is the answer.
What engine is close to the TVR ones?
What's the short block and long block difference?
How different is a 4.6 Range Rover engine and electrics?
Is the 'Serpentine' just a later design?

I think when it's finished it could be up to 70 or 80mb.
How would I go about getting this hosted? Andy.
I can help you here. If you want I can set you up on my website and you can submit stuff as and when you're ready.
Or mail me the stuff and I'll organise it. Drop me a mail if you want.

Apologies if any of this is patronising, I dont mean it to be but I want to keep this as straightforward as possible, hence a little over simplification has been made in places
If youre really that fussed I'll bolt on a FI manifold! The engine basics are very much the same either way.
They'll shoot me for saying this but a TVR V8 is essentially a Range Rover engine. The essential design hasn't really changed since the engine was in the Buick Skylark! Yes its been stiffened with extra ribbing and the like, and the fueling and ignition systems have changed over the years but...
A short and long block refers to the state of build. Typically a short block is the crankcase (block), with crank and pistons installed. A long engine also has the cam, cylinder heads etc on. A turnkey has everything (alternator, PAS pump etc) bolted on so you literally bolt in the engine into your engine bay and...turn the key...
The serpentine engine is one that has all the ancillary components, PAS, alternatior, aircon etc driven by one big belt, instead of three or four on the pre-serp engines, the change roughly coincides with the loss of the classic RangeRover shape in the mid 90's. One of the main advantages of the serpentine engine is the stronger oil pump, and then cross bolting of the main bearing caps to finally eliminate the fretting of the main bearings due to movement of the bearing caps when bolted purely in the vertical axis.
If you want to play electrics and fuel injection etc buy a scrapper Rover SD1 (Vanden PLas EFi or Vitesse)or classic Range Rover. These have the earlier flapper air flow meters, but work on essentially the same principal.
The RPi website is a bit cumbersome to navigate at times but does have a lot of informatin about the different fuel injection setups, because the Range Rovers went away from the standard electrics to distributor-less systems where, in essence, every cylinder had its dedicated ignition coil that was triggered by the ECU.
I ramble, sorry

How would I go about getting this hosted? or would I have to set up my own website?
I've done it for may own satisfaction really, but I was hoping others would find the info interesting and helpful.
Andy.
I for one would be very interested in watching it. Stripping and rebuilding an engine is something I would love to do, once I get a garage/workshop.
