I have recently bought an RST mesh jacket for the summer

As I like a bargain, it's from eBay so I want to give it a wash

The label is very helpful

As the outer is 100% polyester I can't see what the problem is with washing it, as I have all my other textile jackets - in the machine

The liner is sinaqua - I know you have to be careful with Gore-Tex but what does everyone else do with sinaqua ?

I handwash mine then drip-dry, seems to work OK, you could stick it on a quick wool setting in the machine I suppose

If you have a waterproof coating you'll wash it off using any kind of detergent. There are Nikwax products available for reapplying it.

Nikwax do specific wash and reproofing liquids for just this eventuality. I have used them for years now and wash and reproof my (non goretex) Alpinestars textiles at the start of each year. Had them 7 years now and only just replacing them, not because they are no longer waterproof just felt it was time to treat myself.

I've used the Nikwax stuff many times for both GoreTex and non-GoreTex garments. One empty load in the washing machine to clear any detergent residue then one run through on a gentle cycle with the Nikwax wash and immediately onto once through on a gentle cycle with the reproofer. Then drip dry the non-GoreTex but low heat tumble the Gore-Tex (after a period of drip drying).

Thanks - those using a washing machine - was that with Sinaqua?

Does your clothing say Do Not Wash ?

I looked on their website and googled - couldn't find anything

As their label says "do not wash" I'm assuming that'll be their response

I’ve washed the same textile jacket a few times and it’s fine.

As others have said it’s only the waterproofing you need to worry about.

I spent a full day washing and re proofing all my textiles (on and off road gear)

I found an offer on Nikwax Tech wash / TX Direct £20 for 2x 1L on ebay

I haven't tested the waterproofing yet but it's restored the colour to what I thought was sun bleached jacket smile

Bring on the rain !

biggrin

Digging out the mesh jacket....very optimistic.

Well if it is mesh, you don't need to worry about losing any waterproofing as it will be full of holes anyway.....

I just wash stuff on wool cycle.

well you'll not know unitl you ask - it might be a genric lable

i cannot see in this day and age you would not be able to after all, its going to get very grubby and stink eventually

may be that's their marketing ploy to make you buy more

It's got a removable waterproof / breathable liner which sounded ideal for a European tour
