Reminds me of landlord of mine when I was a student...
Being a tight fisted git, he always used to go to the fish market at 5PM on a saturday (bargain time) and buy whatever he could get cheap.
Now one day he picks up an octopus and brings it home. But he didn't know what to do with it! So he just chucked it in a pan of boiling water and left it to it's own devices. It wasn't long before the internal pressure of the said octopus reached the level that it's body could no longer contain, and finding the weakest point (I'll leave that to you imagination) the octupus performed a perfect vertical takeoff out of the pan and proceeded to fire straight up until it collided with the ceiling. How we laughed, and laughed, and laughed, so much so that after he picked this thing up off the floor, rinsed it under a tap and flung it back in the pan we had to retire to the pub to consider our immenant homelessness.
Mind you, we waited until he'd bottled his homebrew for the delectation of his noisy b*stard mates. Only what he didn't know was that it had a little extra ingredient...
2 bottles of syrup of figs.

Well... my local fish take-aways place does what they call "Squiggly Pops" - fried squid heads served with a sweet chilli dipping sauce. www.fishaways.co.za/ - not sure if the squiggly pops are there or not - I don't do Flash... They are insanely delicious. I'm busy cleaning some squid heads I bought for trying my own at home and am rapidly getting turned off the whole idea! As for googling, I am further confounded when all recipes call for chucking the heads away - a la the first response received. I think the kitties are in for a bit of a treat tonight ;-)
Hehe. Well, after chickening out of preparing these things for own consumption, I decided to boil them up for our kitties. I'm now so glad I decided to give them a miss! Bright purple *everywhere* ;-) Good fun and very interesting, but not quite my idea of a culinary delight. Plan B is being concocted as I type this
But if anyone needs any clothes dyed purple....

Yummy paella: Get big pan, add oil and garlic, heat up, add squid, quick fry, add a sprinkle of lemon, pour rice, pinch of saffron, add water, simmer till rice is ready... add peas if you fancy. Get a sachet of squid ink if you can find one and cook all in it... then smile after eating and let the guests run away at the sight...

Like eating flip flops.
Ordered Calamari in a restaurant in Toronto and when it turned up instead of being tastily fried to perfection it was boiled.
It had the consistency of the Eagle F1s I just put on the Porsche. We took it home to my wife's dog who would eat pretty much anything (including half of my thigh) who chewed on it for half an hour before spitting it out behind the sofa.
Squid is delicious, if they taste like flip flops it is because they have been cooked for too long or left too long.
Prepare some flour (non self raising) with some herbs, roll / cover the squid then fry in good quality olive oil. A squeeze of fresh lemon and a bowl of good olives. Doesnt get much better on a summer evening.

[quote=zaktoo]Anyone have a recipe? I'm aiming to fry them up with olive oil, garlic and bucketloads of peri-peri sauce... any better suggestions?

I thought Squid heads' was a play on PistonHeads, not that you're going to eat them you big wierdo
 That would have been far too clever for me - no, I had planned to dine on some rather purple rubbery bits earlier this evening... I chickened out though (yeah I know - a wuss!) and didn't eat them after they turned the whole pot purple
Ciao
