Is this the end of the Chimaera and Cerbera?
Discussion
I wonder if you can ask for spare engine when you Spec up your new Tamora these days
This will save your dealer ordering you a new one after a few months use.
I'll have a Cerbera with a trustworthy Rover V8 5 litre, Please. Shame they don't make them at the factory. I would buy one today. The Chimeara I used to own was a great car. Long live TVR !! just test 'em a bit more before selling them.

Oh dear...
Mine is 12 months old now and done nearly 12,000 miles. Why do we have to keep harking on about reliability when a large number (the majority) have had no problems at all... You can't have a Rover V8 anymore. That's the end of it. Time to move on....

I suspect people keep harking on about reliability because it remains an issue. Improved yes. Fully solved? - maybe, maybe not. The very small number of serious engine faults reported on the Tamora forum here is still a worryingly high percentage of the, err, small number of PH Tamora owners.
Someone I spoke to at a TVR subsidiary recently said to me 'If I had a TVR I'd get a Speed Six powered one' - which I thought was an excellent and
positive endorsement of the engine. 'Yes, ' he went on to say 'that way I'd be guaranteed a free engine rebuild every 12 months'.
To be fair he did say that he thought the factory now had the Spd 6 sorted.
We all know yours has been reliable for 12 months, Flasher - but others have not been so fortunate. For the avoidance of doubt I like the Tamora and want it and the Spd 6 to succeed.

Yep you can still order the Chim, as I was told Monday by my dealer. Also they have a brand spanking new unregistered Griff in their showroom and I thought all of them had been built and sold now.

12000 miles is nothing for an engine built today by now it should only be run in, i like the tamora and don't want to call it all the the names going but the large number (the majority) probably haven't done more than 10000 miles yet as tvr's go, let's wait and see what happens when the car reaches about 50000 miles as this would be a more accurate sign of the tell tale reliability and i hope that they are all problem free.

Sorry, I don't agree - the Rover V8 is underpowered, heavy, too torquey for safety, when your right foot is the only safety aid, and is a Rover engine.
At least the Sp6 is a TVR engine - and TVR have used all sorts of engines in the past. Is there anything else people want to criticise TVR over? Personally, I am filled with admiration for the ballsy engineering and sheer defiance TVR have shown in producing a range of their own engines, from a tiny manufacturing and customer base. In forty years, we'll (hopefully) be looking at TVR as the doyen of independent British car makers, and saying, "at least it's a TVR engine and TVR body through and through." Jeez, give the guys a break!!
And where does the AJPV8 fit in the "no TVR V8" argument?

It's got a flat plane crank so it doesn't sound like a real one. The simple truth of the matter is that the Rover V8 engined cars put TVR on the map, and a significant part of what drew many people in initially was the great soundtrack. I dare say there would be much less criticism if they built a traditional V8.
I think everyone is full of admiration for TVR producing their own engines - I certainly am.
Concern about engine reliability (i.e. if I buy one am I going to face a big bill for an engine rebuild after the warranty expires?) should be mistaken for TVR bashing.
Incidentally, the 'Rover' V8 is actually a Buick engine if you trace it right back.

"Too torquey"? What is this "too torquey" that you speak of? Is such a thing possible?

That's the first time I've seen that used as an argument against the Rover V8. (I wasn't aware that it was particularly heavy either, but I'll let you off with underpowered)
I don't think reliability issue is one to be brushed aside, well done if your Tamora is still going strong after 12,000 miles !! I have known of lots of Tamora issues which are not being resolved by the Dealers Or the Factory. They are NOT cheap cars anymore and certainly more expensive to service than the Rover V8 cars. Why should owners have to accept poorly engineered mechanics, while I accept "build quality" has always been a but shady. As a previous TVR owner this has always been the sacrifice I could live with. This is the ONLY reason I have not bought another TVR
