When I was a kid my mums mum always had a hankie up her sleeve. She was there when I had snot or a food spiill accident, like a wizard. Wiped away.

I don’t remember my mother or father having a hankie hidden away.

Do people on PH have hankies?

ETA. I was born in the 70s.

My dad did/still does.

Seems a bit grim to carry a snotty rag around to me.

Is that seasonal or just of all time?

I ask because I get severe hay-fever in the summer.

My wife always has tissues in each pocket and wet wipes.

The wet wipes are since we had a kid

Haven't got one on my desk yet but like you I have them in my pocket and under my pillow.

Just to add I change them pretty regularly so they probably only get used once or twice before they get washed.

Edited to add that I'm 55 and also a child of the 60s as there seems to be a pattern developing here

One in my right hand pocket - for blowing my nose on.
One in my left hand pocket for cleaning my spectacles and using as an emergency hankie.

The dirty one then gets placed in the wash, the spectacles one becomes the one to blow my nose with, and a fresh one becomes the spectacle cleaner.

You've got to have a system!

In the hayfever/winter months, I might also have some paper hankies which I can use then discard straight away so that I don't get a snot filled pocket hehe

Edit to add : I'm a sixties child, and have always done this since I was packed off to school!

Beconase comes in handy for those times.

I tend not to leave home without one! Since having my adenoids and tonsils out when I was very young, my nose will oft run whenever it feels like it.

68 here, and always have one in my trouser pocket. Hardly ever use it, and can be there for a few weeks, and if used goes into the wash.
When out with grandchildren, always have a couple of wetwipes in a polythene coin bag. Handy for spills, and a magic cure if they fall over.

Hay fever season mostly, but general sinus 'leakage' does not help!
I tend to find that Sudafed dries things up when it is at it's worst, but the side effect is that the skin around my nose then drys out and flakes as my exzama flares up!

I do find that gin helps me, though.....

Ditched the cotton hankies in favour of a handy-andies style pack of tissues. Purely there for that odd occasion when a sneeze catches you out and you end up with a handful of phlegm.

I’m 48 and have always carried a handkerchief.

I never have to buy any though, as I’m usually given them by friends who have received them as presents, even when I’m the only person they know who uses one!

I'm confused. What is wrong with having a hankerchief in your pocket? (And who actually calls it a 'hankie'?)

MilkyWay Sr (93)... Red hankie / hanky with white spots... & my Mum always had a small one tucked up her sleeve.
Got loads of unopened boxes in his bedroom drawers too.

NB: Have you tried tying knots in a tissue. getmecoat

Always carry a white cotton handkerchief.

Perfect for cleaning one's spectacles
