Just stunned by todays "buyers"

I have a TVR Chimaera which I am considering selling after 7 years of ownership. I advertised on Facebook Marketplace to judge the reaction to the market and have received a number of "Is it still available" messages, to which I always reply confirming "yes" and then never hear another word from them. Now I have had someone giving me directions to their house so that I can take it over to them to view - 20 miles away. To my mind, when buying a car, the purchaser goes to look at it, not the seller taking it to them. What is wrong with people these days???
To be fair to FBM, I used it to sell my last bike.
Had almost no interest elsewhere so thought I’d give it a try.
Received a cheeky offer or two and had three separate guys come to view it, all who seemed genuine, & one of whom bought it for a little less than I had listed it for.
Hopefully the next one will be as easy….
I’ve also bought vehicles from there with no real issue.

Stick it up on here, if your a member of the Chimaera group on Facebook that's well worth joining to ask if anyone's looking.
I wouldn't pay and put it on ebay or Autotrader personally.
I've sold my last few via Facebook and it took a while but just try to laugh off the stupid questions and maybe have a bit of fun with them too.

Try a PH listing,. For a TVR I would imagine you will get fewer enquiries but perhaps those that do will be more genuine.
Does the 10 year forum membership free advert still exist?
I've been here since Ted and it used to be a thing and I've sold two Tivs and an Focus RS with it. Only one enquiry for each but all three were buyers.

I listed my Chimaera on PH classified a couple of years ago and only had a few enquiries (3 I think) but they were all sensible intelligent buyers who knew what they were looking for. I ended up selling it to a very nice chap who communicated well, came over, saw it, liked it, slight haggle that kept both of us happy and it was done in a week from start to finish.
I think with anything even slightly ‘specialist’ then PH is a much more relevant marketplace.

It's worth noting that one of the default methods of initiating a conversation about a 'for sale' item on Facebook is 'Is this still available?'.
If the person doesn't realise, or isn't technically astute, then they may not realise that this can be changed.
So, there's potential for a genuine buyer to receive a terse response, which subsequently puts them off.
Really, you have to jump that hurdle and simply respond politely as it's not really their fault.

I mostly use Facebook Marketplace to give away stuff and I've started to put:
Do NOT use the standard "Is is still available?" message. If you can't string together a basic polite sentence enquiring about the item, then you don't really want it.
No posting, couriers or delivery - so no questions asking about this please.
If you arrange a time and date to collect and fail to turn up, I will offer it to the next person - I have built up a nice message database of those who ask for everything and those who are no-shows.
Location is 2 minutes from M20 Junction 7, near TV Studios/Tesco, Postcode NE1 4SN - so no questions asking about this please.

Would suggest the likelihood of the successful sale of a vehicle like that is exactly what you're finding.
I've been told that, on many phones, the "Is it still available?" message is on one "button". Apparently, said "button" is easy to press accidentally when scrolling to the next ad'. Hence, so many messages... Can't confirm as I only have an old fashioned landline.
When I was selling my '64 Dodge pick up, I started asking folk if theirs was a genuine enquiry or not and received one reply that called me a "rude, obnoxious prick" and told me to "keep your fking car"... Another drove a hundred miles with the cash and took the Dodge back to Wales with him... Other than that, I have sold a good no. of vehicles via Marketplace and have remained in contact with a few of the new owners. These were all specialist vehicles, old hot rod, custom bikes, American pick up, TR7 V8, Ford Pinto...

You can filter out timewasters easily because you don't have to give out a phone number until you get a message from a genuine buyer.

yes I wanted it gone). It's a bit pricier and for a fee you can set a reserve. I sold a Cerbera using the classifieds here on PH.

Call me back to arrange to pick up next day (no address given) and then nothing. People negotiate a price and when agreed they disappear.
