You know it´s odd to watch that when ppl in Switzerland are drowning....Massive fluds everywhere and then a place like Portugal, where there hasnt been raining since January..so yesh..the climate has changed.

Shouldn't that s(h)entence be concluded with the word "Moneypenny"?

The authorities in Portugal have now asked for international help to aid this situation and it's tragic that at least 12 firefighters have already been killed.

I'm off to Porto in a couple of weeks time- so maybe I can help

Just come back from the Algarve..no fires there although there appears to be a sort of rotating water rationing going on,it was turned off for about 3 hrs on a couple of evenings.

Thats the problem with having "managed" forests.

Instead of having a relatively small fire every year or so, the local authorities dont allow this to happen, with the result that years & years of combustible material is allowed to accumulate.

End result is that rather than a small manageable fire every year, you are presented with this wholly uncontrollable situation every decade or so.

I spent some time out in Oz where they had regular bush fires, they said it used to regenerate the area and plants would grow back stronger, going back to the portugese fire, ive never seen a wall of flames like it it must be terrifying.

My mate is due back from Potugal next week. I'll have to ask him if he was close to them.
