Anyone ever cut up a K&N air filter
Discussion
Looking to adapt a K&N air filter on a project but it will need to be cut & shut.
Thinking a 1mm blade in an angle grinder along one of the pleats, anyone ever tried it or tried cutting around the circumference to reduce height.
Just one of the many weird ideas that pass through my idle brain.
thanks

You can buy K&N filters in just about every size you'd ever need. Why bother cutting one up?

I have made my own air filters, one was cut a cut down foam filter. Spent ages at a motor factors finding the correct dia. Also you can buy sheets of filter foam, intended for flat panel filters, but I've cut shaped and glued them.
I used wire mesh to support the filter inside the housing.

That could be the alternative option I used wire mesh to support the filter inside the housing.

can post a picture of the filter explaining where you want to cut it.
I’ve done it, but it was a circular filter for a 4 barrel carb, there was a metal strip joining the circle, so just opened it, cut 1” out and reattached
Haven't got one yet, it's for fitting in a difficult location.I’ve done it, but it was a circular filter for a 4 barrel carb, there was a metal strip joining the circle, so just opened it, cut 1” out and reattached
