Roll up! Roll up! - Top Gear Challenge
Discussion
OK, so those of you who saw Top Gear on Sunday can't have failed to notice the open challenge to beat the Zonda's time round the circuit.
Blatchat are putting forward a Caterham.
The Evo forum are offering a modified Evo 7.
The Elise BBS are proposing an entry.
Not a squeak from Pistonheads other than Big Wedge who made a mention that was ignored in the Top Gear thread. Wossup?
I've read how fast all your cars are, now it's time to prove it. You can't tell me out of all the TVRs, Ultimas, Nobles, Porsches, Ferraris, Loti, Jap cars and Kit cars no-one's got anything capable of having a go. Or are you afraid to get your cars out of the garage now it's turned cold?
I'd like to see the CARISMA Cerbera win it, that'll cause a few red faces.
Bonce / courting controversy

I think I'd have a go but that is very dependant on the circuit, my car is quick round most tracks, but round a big track, big cars are quicker
. I think the Ultima chaps should step forward here.
I agree with Bonce, stop being soft and lets win, we're not gonna let a pesky Zonda beat us are we?

A buddy of mine who is used to tuned & very powerful motors from a certain german manufacturer ie 500+bhp, had a drive 2 days ago in a real Audi Quattro SWB that is modified to well over 500bhp. Obiously it has a big price tag- similar to the new Lambo, but he thinks its one of the quickest cars he has ever driven, significantly quicker then a new 996 Turbo! I realistically think only an Ultima or R500 is going to be quicker unless anyone has a Radical? perhaps I should make a phone call & sort it out.
Same here matey. Not saying I'd beat a Zonda, but I'd have a go at anything in my baby.
incorrigible said: I wouldn't be faster
But I'll give it a go, bet I beat most boxter owner/drivers
What about a PH sprint? Like a proper sprint, timed etc. but just for us lot. Not sure about the legal malarkey on this one though. But I'd be well up for whipping a few Porsche/Ferarri/TVR boys
(but not mungo, I think he'd enjoy a good whipping a bit too much
)

I think it would probably be possible to get one of our friendly local clubs to add a 'Pistonheads' class to one of their sprints. You would all still need to buy a comp license and get the safety gear. Getting somebody to run an event just for you would take a lot more work (and cost more) but may be possible.
Cheers,
Peter Humphries (and a green V8S)
Did discuss with Ted the idea at beginning of the year of running a Pistonheads Run What Ya Brung event at Avon Park/Shakespeare County Raceway near Stratford but it never happened.
This would only be a straight line quarter mile from standing start, but you'd get a timing ticket at the end of each run and it would also be a hell of a lot cheaper than trackday or sprint event.
I know Avon Park are up for it, so if you lot fancy a giving it a go say so, and maybe we'll do it next year.

That's no good, people will beat me

But yeah, I would be up for it

If we do decide to do some sort of quater mile/sprint type tihng can it be after march as I wanna play and should have passed my driving test by late march, I'd love to give the westi a good run out!
As the the top gear challenge, there HAS to be at least ONE Ultima owner that would be up for it, appearance on telly, advertising pistonheads on your car! Sod it give me your car and i'll do it!

incorrigible said: Hill climbs are usually quie reasonably priced (aren't they ?) Anyone got any ideas about numbers ? what licence do you need ?
You will need a National B Non-Race license to compete in sprints/hillclimbs, you can get one of these from the MSA for about £40 - £50 and no need for an ARDS course as they are only for 'race' licenses!
Not sure about prices but I can't see why it would be expensive...what sort of thing are we looking at?
