Broke my Elise
Discussion
Caught the front end on a car park. It's not that major but it will need filling and painting.
It's the right hand side, on the lip about 6 inches from where the number plate is. The damage is about 2 inches across (with some small chunks missing) accompanied by a scrape that extends back under the car for about 6 inches.
Will it be able to be filled ok - it looks like it should? How much would seem reasonable? Should I consider getting the nose done for stone chips at the same time? Or would that be just silly extra expense?
I'm gonna get some quotes naturally, but just wanted to hear of similar experiences to get my facts together. Looks like Stratton will get the work though - 'cause they are my nearest dealer - I can't afford the time to drive hundereds of miles to get this done - so a fairly local and cheaper place would be better. I live in the Norwich area.
Arrrrrrgh! Just got her serviced 2 weeks ago and all 'was' ok!

Just had both sides repaired on mine (car was stolen and driven over a kerb). They've built up the fibreglass and the repair looks invisible from all angles apart from when you rest your head on the floor and look up at the front underside (a little ripple underneath). Quite an easy and common repair.
Cheers MJK - kept up to speed with your theft situation. That really sucks. Glad it's getting sorted for you - this is only minor compared to your damage but I think you'll still understand the way I feel.
Really blows cause I'm planning on travelling to see my annoying uncle who always said I wouldn't get the car and don't want this denting my gloating. Just want it sorting in the next week or so.

Try HANGAR111 Performance Centre in Martlesham, Ipswich. They can do smart repairs...very cheap and excellent quality. I had a pretty nasty scrape and small crack on the front n/s wheel arch done (garage incident!!doh!) and they did a nasty chip on one of the 'lobes' at the front at the same time. Its a perfect invisible repair for a fraction of the cost of a dealer. Call Greg/Marianne and say you spoke to Matt re the repair........then i might get a free coffee next time i'm in there!!

But how was your car stolen? I assume they got hold of the key somehow.
Indeed they did. Bamboo cane through the door at 4:30am, got a house key, let themselves in and took the Elise and the Passat. Elise was found after 48hours at the side of the road locked up. They'd put nearly 200 miles on and stolen petrol for it. Passat found the following day, only 15 miles on that. Again, locked at the side of the road. Quite a bizzare crime really as they didn't take any personal possesions from either car (mine had 15 cd's in there, a half decent pair of shades and a new half decent Alpine CD player). Looks like Joyriders but I didn't think that kind of thing still happened these days. They came back a week later and took a Merc C180 Kompressor - not sure if that's turned up yet.
Just got the Elise back on Monday after a month waiting for a lock set and an alarm. Getting a precautionary Geo on Friday but to be honest it looks and drives fine so I am quite releaved.
If it was written off and they paid out some miserable sum I'm not in a position to replace it at the moment so I was delighted to get it back!
