Hope I find you well.

Bit of a long shot, does anyone know any details/history of this 6.0 V12 Volante T-TronicII Euro 4 2dr

Thanks in advance

No idea, but I never fail to be amazed by what you can get for the price of a new VW Golf or ID4.

A little euro s***box or a 5.9ltr V12 beauty with a f*** off stereo, not that you’d need it…

It is a bit sad that the reason more beaten down blokes don’t think s** it, something for me, the kids can still fit in the back, and go for the latter is an overriding fear of something terminal going wrong.

A shame really, as this gen of Astons, with all its Ford, Jag and Volvo bits, even deep in the engine, will probably be the last that is truly maintainable on a budget if one is happy to get a bit oily and a bit confident/competent with the spanners smile

That isn’t strictly true though. These cars can be ruinously expensive for the average family man.

I need some replacement leather trim. 3 pieces, maybe at a push a sq meter of leather.

Cost….£4k + vat from Works for 3 pieces. Plus fitting.

Front timing cover gasket, ‘they all do that sir’, cost to replace £3k iirc.

Door modules, window modules, seat modules, etc, god knows £.

Those rear lights that seem to be semi porous, £1k each.

Paintwork…

Nothing close to running a golf or similar.

Hi Calinours,

Absolutely love your reply.

I work offshore half the year, I work bloody hard and thought bugger it, why not. Time to step up the game.
The kids can all get in wifes car.

I think you have convinced me even more to go for it, cheers.

As Calinours said, if you are willing to get your hands dirty and know how to search the internet for information then running an Aston is nowhere near as expensive as the doom merchants say.

No problem. Go for it and welcome. There’s loads of good people on here who will give you good advice. Read some of the stickies at the top, particularly ‘alternative parts’ and ‘fixes’. There are ways around many of the common faults, but granted, you need to budget a little more than for the euro box for stuff like tyres, oil and brakes, and there are bound to be niggling issues often to electrics and aging batteries.

If you work offshore you will earn enough to not be worried by any of it. Buy wisely, on condition, with a history of loving ownership, that means lots of services that also show identification and fix of little issues along the way, and if possible the longest warranty you can negotiate. Keep it garaged, look after it and enjoy.

I would not say a 13yr old DB9 is not without risk, what in life is not?

There is a thread on here (which I contributed to) that started with someone stating they had a quote from works for thousands to fix a piece of leather trim. By the end of the thread, what with the tips and how to guides, the cost was reduced to the cost of the glue, about £3…

Good on you.
My Vantage is now 14 years old. Good gracious, how time flies.
Have had almost no problems, the only major expense being the silly single plate clutch, but that is not applicable to DB9s.

Best of luck, beautiful cars.

Oh by the way, Harbour Energy by any chance ?

Hi Dewi 2,

Thanks. Calling the dealer back soon to see if we can work out a price, fingers crossed.

Its CNOOC I work for, well, contract to.

Next thing is to look into garage/mechanics up in Central Scotland?

Andy you pessimist! laugh

I would assume, depending on the age/value of a persons car you may wish to spend 4k at works for a little bit of unfitted leather, or not. My car having clicked over 16 years recently, is not going to get AM specific OEM stuff when it can be handled down the road by a local company at a fraction of the cost.
For my seats, new foam plus centres and inner bolsters redone in alcantara with Vantage S style embroidery, centre and side armrest also in alcantara, and steering wheel and gear knob/boot redone in leather, came to a bit under 4k Swiss, GBP 3.5k, and very few would know the difference.

Both porous (biglaugh) tail lights are the only relatively expensive items I`ve had issue with in coming up to eight years. All the performance upgrades and carbon fibre bits, now that`s a different story... wink

You pays your money and you takes your choice. I`d be hands down risking poverty with the DB9 rather than years of sensible, boring motoring in a Golf.

" Fast track hood- Atlantic Blue
Fast track hood- Black
Fast track hood- Westminster Green " ?

Mileage may be a bit high for the age / type of car. (nearly 70k)

Running 'can' be expensive but depreciation 'should' be minimal. How much will a new Golf (OTR price with options) depreciate over five or ten years.

Bigger question mark will be how the whole ICE / EV situation will pan out. Aston prices could go up as "They don't make 'em like that any more." or could go down as they get hounded off the road by politicians and councils and cost of dinosaur fuel goes up..

I think Harbour is one of CNOOC partners in the Buzzard field.

The politicians are now causing further North Sea investment to stop and it seems one party now wants nearly 100% tax.
Taxing 100% equals zero for the Treasury.
They talk 'green', but if we don't have the commodity, then it has to be shipped in from afar.
The started playing their game when crude prices peaked, but it seems logical that they should give tax payers money to oil and gas explorers, each time the oil price sinks to loss making levels. They prefer the one way, you pay us strategy though.

Very good point on depreciation.
As far as ICE / EV’s though it will take a good many years before any hounding is successful ( and that’s assuming it even is ) and in the meantime you’ve been driving an Aston.

Dont disagree with any of that dean, (car looking great btw). I was replying to the poster who was commenting that running an aston is no more expensive than a golf, which now transpires to mean if you are mechanically able and willing to do all the work on it yourself its a lot cheaper than having a professional garage do it, which you could say about many cars, including a golf. But whatever.

Anyway, I wish the OP much happiness and trouble free miles with his future Aston purchase.

The video referenced above by Calinours, is Mr Martin talking about V8 Vantages.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bSkWG0UMDro

I think Martins used to be an/the Aston Martin main dealer in Scotland.
As you can gather from the video, very good knowledge and experience of Aston Martin cars.

I suggest you read it again, this time all the way to the end… the point was made crystal clear in that 1st post.

Hi,
Yeah sorry about that, thought it might have been but I couldn’t get the video to work on my mobile. Comforting to know someone like this is so local (5 minutes from my house). Im planning to visit them this week for a chat.
