I guess the moral here is to ask permission first as it will have been a lot cheaper!

Except Sting may have said no… and then he can’t release it or has to pay an even bigger penalty.

What’s $2m a year to P Diddy anyway? He’s worth $900m+

It's an Andy Summers riff, so if Sting is getting all the royalties he should be really hacked off.

I seem to recall there is some resentment, and I think I heard that Sting also handed over a million or so to keep him happy. I forget whether it was in the BBC "Top ten richest songs" documentary or something else.

i seem to remember it was a BBC documentary about groups and how some fall out. From memory Andy Summers says something like he was in a car and the track came on and he realised it was his riff. It was more than likely a BBC4 music programme they put out on Friday nights

I used to pay 20p to see Sting and Last Exit most Sunday lunchtimes in the Newcastle Uni theatre bar - a 3 piece jazz orientated Hammond driven combo for those not in the know.

...he's not done too badly for himself has old Gordon.
