Where next after Lexus?

I've had 3 Lexus over 9 years the latest being an NX300h.

Based solely on my personal experience I don't find that Lexus entirely deserve their reputation for excellent build quality, although they have been entirely reliable.

I'm wondering where to go next. My main criteria for a "daily" car are reliability and build quality,

I don't think (again, personally) that the German makes are "better", nor JLR.

I've never had a Volvo but the XC60 might fit the bill. I've always quite fancied a Porsche but the basic Macan is bewilderingly expensive for what you appear to get - am I missing something?

Any advice or opinions would be gratefully received.

Do you have any specifics with what you mean specifically re build quality?

You've had 3 so there must be a few issues that bug/disappoint you?

Lexus is quite a high bar for the things you most want, it's usually brand/blandness or safe, no soul type comments that come from the Lexus detractors so it might be a hard to keep the reliability and increase the build quality.

The only thing likely to be better than a mid-range Lexus for reliability and build quality would be a higher end one, so an RX, LS or LC I think.

Or import a Toyota Century?

On average, any other brand is going to be worse in your two main criteria.

If you're disappointed with Lexus, I suspect you are going to be heartbroken with anything else.

Largely agree with the above post.

You could revert to Toyota and give the Camry a try. Seemingly rare on UK roads.

I can't think of anything from Honda.

Or Nissan/Infiniti for that matter.

I always thought that Genesis (the posh Hyundai) would be awful for fuel consumption etc, VED etc.

Only car that's screaming at me right now which I have driven (and was close to taking out a lease on several years ago) is the Volvo S90. Refined car but as with more recent Volvos, the only thing that I personally find off-putting is operating all the interior features via the touchscreen. Would much prefer physical buttons and knobs. Again, depends if you can live with that!

The simple question is how much are you looking to spend & what are your criteria?

Given the constant stream of issues a friend is having with his S90 (thankfully still under warranty) I'd probably stay away from a volvo with those buying criteria!

If you're not willing to compromise on reliability then I think your only option is going to be another bigger Lexus.

Rumour has it the latest generation of Volvo have electrical issues.

If the OP means 'poor build quality' to just mean 'too much plastic in the interior' then I would somewhat agree, but at least it is working plastic

I always think that Lexus have their eye on the American market when designing their cars and they are much more forgiving of such materials over there.

I'm not too familiar with the NX, perhaps its interior is more Toyota-y than the Lexus only saloons?

What's the interior of the Kia Stinger like, that might be a contender on the reliability front?

Go for a proper Lexus, like a LC/LS500 if you want build quality

The new Mazda cx90 looks lovely inside and out. Less reliable than Lexus but likely more reliable than most German brands

Shame to hear about the issues with Volvo, and no one's said anything about Porsche!

I had a Volvo V60 a few years ago and hands down the most unreliable car I ever owned. It never broke down on me but constant electrical faults especially with door locks

I've had all the usual German brands and I'd choose any of them over Volvo. I'll never buy a Volvo again.

Funnily enough those Volvo door locks also feature on Jaguars, where they are equally unreliable! That said it's a fairly easy fix.

Had an xc40 for the past 3 years r design trim t3 engine
Build quality and materials are pretty nice tbh
No squeaks or rattles from the interior
It is all touch screen and the infotainment is very glitchy
And the engine is too weak
Looking to move to the xc60 next

Two dealers in London and that's it. Not really convenient.
