This is more of a hypothetical question, but I'd love your opinions.

I have a new (for me) car. 2012 Ferrari FF. 27,000 miles. It came with 2 sets of wheels and tyres, Potenza winters with 6mm and Michelin Super sport Summers with 3.5mm. Both sets are dated 2012.

I've ordered new Michelin summers from Blackcircles but they have been delayed. In the meantime, while I wait for them to arrive, would I be better off fitting the winter set of summer set to the car, bearing in mind that they are both 11 years old? I wondered if tyres harden over time, whether the softer compound winters would be better than the summers?

I'm not going to be doing many miles, but it'll be a week or so until the new tyres can be fitted. Clearly I shouldn't be using old tyres ideally, but which set would you fit for the interim?

Tyres to suit the weather and road conditions you'll be driving in. It's that simple.

And 12 years stored properly wouldn't be much concern really.

Is the whole tyre age thing exaggerated ? Perhaps.

I would leave whatever is currently on it, subject to a detailed visual inspection.

Assuming the winters were stored in the dark, they will be the set that have seen the least UV so would be my choice.

My winters are getting on a bit and seen 8 winters so far, stored inflated in the dark they show no signs at all of ageing or losing grip.
