My dampers are pretty much dead and i need to repace them sometime soon. Ideally Nitrons would be the way to go, but i'm having way too many car problems to be able to afford them. So i'm after cheap and cheerful. Spax seem to be the cheapest. Are they a pile of rubbish or not? Was also thinking second hand LSS, but need them before my MOT. ie soon
have a look at the classifieds on here and SELOC and try to get some std S2 suspension for £200 ish - then get some adaptors from www.auto-teknix.co.uk with ride height adustment...my mate has this on his car and it rides really well...much better than LSS for road use
I sell lots and lots of protech dampers for TVRs .. i was speaking to Rod about his new double adjustable protechs the other day and he was saying they sell lots of their single adjust dampers to Lotus Elise owners .. just wondered if you'd considered them at all? I've no experience of the protechs on elises, but i have my TVR versions made to my own specs and they're a great intermediate damper. I fully expect teh double adjust versions to be out to beat nitrons in the performance/pound stakes.

Where would i be able to check the prices of the protechs? And who stock them?
don't know really .. you can call protech direct i guess, but don't know of any distributors as such other than myself .. and as i say i've never fitted a set so don't know how they perform. I do know i changed the spec of the TVR dampers quite dramatically as i felt they weren't quite what i wanted in their off the shalf spec, but speaking to protech they said they'd shifted lots of them so far so i guess they must be pretty good as is.
AVO. I have these and they're actually very good - just make sure whoever fits them does it right. Any negative reports I've read centre on poor fitting and geo.
Mine, fitted and geo'd cost me just under £500.
They're quite quiet, bump and rebound are good, and there is a fixed-rate adjuster for stiffening for track work. The height is very adjustable too.
