Help please guys

Sorry for the cross posting, but I need a little advice in the next few hours, and the cerb forum sometimes moves pretty slowly, so I posted here:

I assume if you remove the fibreglass lip, a battery is fairly easy to remove and replace?

If you search on battery, there are several threads. Once the cover is off, its easy to replace, but you will need the correct battery, I think 072 has been mentioned before, but the mounting lugs can make a difference.

Taking the old one along should help avoid problems.

You mentioned in your post over the 'otherside' that you think a possible drain is the cause to your battery problem. I do know that the alarm system drains a reasonable amount from the battery if left...mine has an Accmate hardwired, which I connect to the mains and trickle chargedif left for more than a few days...never have a problem.

I researched buying a battery, decided optima was best, asked someone to fit a new cheap battery (job didnt get done) and Im where i was 3 months ago. Dont want to spend more than £100 on a battery, happy to have something cheap in the mean time, but dont know which one to choose.

A search told me nothing:
"Recommended optima yellow top"
Yup, but I dont want to spend that much, dont even know if I can get one at halfrauds?

I dont know if we have a national tyres locally

Don’t work:
"Varta battery type 072 fitted which turned out that the -ve lug was too high to go back under the wing."

So, what can I pick up from halfwits that does work, and will fit no trouble, anyone?

Im not sure Ive searched and read quite a few threads, and still cant find a halfwits battery which anyone agrees as being one which fits first time

Not that this helps, but I'm starting to think that the alarm siren is causing a lot of power drain.

I gather the siren has it's own battery & like any rechargable battery, at some stage it's going to dry out & fail, when this time comes it could cause all sorts of problems including short circuits & drawing excessive current. (I'm going off my experience of batteries in the alarm panels we sell)

I've cut the wires to the siren & have noticed I can now leave the car for weeks without problems.

I'd be interested to see the current draw of the car with the alarm connected versus not connected.



I may be wrong on all of the above & talking a load of bollox though.

Been a while since I changed mine, think it's an 076. Most decent motor factors should stock one, couldn't find anything at halfwits that would do the job. Paid £70 for mine from my nearest car spares shop.

Take the old one for comparison. Don't be tempted to get one with a lower cranking current, it'll struggle to turn the engine over.

Just go to your local TVR dealer they always have them in stock, Its a Type 069 you need ..... I got a Lucas 4 year guarantee for £70

I recall when i fitted a new battery is was a pain in the ar$e! Not just getting it out and in (and you have to remove the airbox thing), but also getting the right battery. I knew the type, but then apparently they come in different shapes - tried 3 batteries in total before i just went to my friendly TVR indie - i will always recommend that route for anything

After reading all the in other people posts after doing some searches, this is the best way to go I reckon. Dream machines quoted me £35 for a new battery when I spoke to them a few months back At that price, You could have a new one 18 months and peace of mind that its charging and running strongly (for years.. and still be cheaper than a yellow top)
