The article on the 288 GTO reminded me of my love of wide arches, what with it being, on a basic level, a 308 with flares and being unspeakably cooler as a result. What car do you think most benefits from wide arches? And if one was to buy a project car on a budget to fit wide arches to, what would you recommend? Without of course getting in to to the nasty side of great big wheel spacers and bad geometry!

R32 Skylines. But there are many different versions and some look horrendous.

So a tasteful wide arch R32 Skyline.

Anything 80s with a hot hatch or group B vibe for me. Lancia Delta, Audi UR Quattro, Renault 5 Turbo 2, Metro 6R4 etc.

I'd echo some of the choices above, but I currently have a thing for old pick-ups lowered and arches added.

Agree to all apart from the 6R4, I think it’s gone so far from the original that rather, than adding arches to a normal car, it’s actually totally different car looks wise. I’d still love one though, have great memories of John Price rallying one in Ireland when I was a chap.

Always loved the 306 Dimma

My other personal favourites would be the 80s and 90s Ford Escort and Fiesta varieties, with the hot versions having flared arches of some kind compared to their regular counterparts... MK4 RS Turbo, Mk5 Escort Cosworth, and all the XR2/i flavours. smile

Good call.

Any F2 or S1600 rally car looked vastly better than the road versions.

Only Ford had the nads to sell a similarly-bodied one.

Many good ones already mentioned, and some of the more obscure Group B cars like RX7, Celica, 240RS also gain a lot of cool factor from their big arches.

Impreza 22b worth a shout for the wide arches over a regular Impreza as well.

Looks great, even when parked up.

The people at Dodge deserve praise for iterating and extending this platform for ages, and with product for almost every price point. The array of available V8s will be missed. Such character, such lairy intent.

Can there be anything more classical than this combination of colors and shapes.

I mean, an Alfa like this is reminiscent of a beautiful building or a coat of arms.
