How long would you say an original 996 clutch should last? Obviously it would vary if you lived in the peak district or central London, but I'm just trying to get a feel for what is normal.

It would be a useful pointer to the sort of life a car has had as one that I went to look at today has just started to fail this AM. Plot clutch life Vs mileage and you have a reasonable indicator of how it's been treated :)

Mine was replaced at 25K with the RMS with a little life left in it, although pedal travel was getting a little excessive.

So I'd say 30-40k would cover the range.

That checks out ok then... Would you say the 996 has a heavy clutch?

This one was quite a bit heavier than my Boxsters and with a dodgy left knee it could make all the difference in my choice of car.

Hopefully view a few more over the weekend to get a feel for what's normal.

Quite heavy, although not BMW 328i Sport or E46 M3 heavy. It does appear to get heavier with more clutch wear, although that just might be the spring on the adjuster or the clutch mechanism on a worn clutch.

My first 996 had it's clutch changed at 33k.
