Ineos confirms all-new electric SUV

Smaller model will go into production from 2026

It was well known that Ineos planned an entire range of SUVs to go around the Grenadier. Now we’ve had the first additional bit of info about what that car might be, Ineos confirming an electric model for the middle of this decade.

To be developed with Magna in Austria, as the Grenadier was, the new Ineos EV will be smaller than its first model but with the focus very much still on off-road ability. “Our all new electric 4X4 will be zero emission while offering customers exceptional off-road capability, without compromising on-road comfort or performance” said Lynn Calder, Ineos CEO. There’s no word yet on whether the new model will borrow BMW bits, as the Grenadier does, but there would certainly be worse people to work with on the project given BMW’s extensive EV experience.

For the moment, we know that a ‘rigorous’ testing scheduled will take place on the Schockl mountain in Austria, close to Magna’s vehicle assembly facility. Makes sense, given the knowledge that will have been gained doing similar things for the Grenadier station wagon and upcoming pick-up models. The promise is for ‘world-class off-road ability’, which is quite some target given the standard already set and electric 4x4s in development, from G-Class to Range Rover.

“Having worked together on the engineering of the Grenadier, we’ve seen first-hand the value of applying Magna’s agility, knowledge, and experience to a complete vehicle development programme. Deepening our collaboration is a natural next step as we use the Grenadier as a springboard for our continued growth as a global automotive brand with this third model line,” added Lynn Calder. An agreement has been signed for production of the new model to begin in Austria in 2026, so expect plenty more information on the Ineos EV over the coming weeks and months. It’ll be here before you know it…

Ratcliffe - the Brexiteer who lives in Monaco to avoid paying UK taxes and builds his products in the EU. All the Brexit supporters in positions of actual power can't wait to get out of the UK. I’d rather support Land Rover who actively contribute to the betterment of the UK, regardless of ownership.

Ignoring the nonsense above this sounds pretty interesting as a long term ownership proposition. Would definitely be in the running against the rumoured upcoming plug in hybrid small Land Cruiser for us.

Looking forward to seeing the details.

Be very interesting to see the direction that takes. Wonder how much smaller?

That says more of your gawping naïvety as to the subject and narrative of brexit.

Not sure Land Rover as a company or any leading individuals were major 'faces' of brexit, unlike that woeful chancer Radcliffe. Any excuses for another brexiteer facenin Dyson....another non dom, another off shoring his manufacturing post brexit and going against his word. Or that loveable rapscallion Rees Mogg who Rees mugged a load of the easily led whilst his various off shore funds shorted the pound.

Liars and charlatans with a bunch of dog whistled village idiots falling for their empty promises and sunlit uplands.

As for the those now dowsing themselves in excuses and whataboutery to defend this mess; lamentably idiotic folk.

You really can fool some of the people all of them time.

Absolutely spot on. And that thing is munting to look at

Like a Chinese knock off edition.

Hope it ends terribly for him

Like his brexit

I wonder if they will just chop out the extra inches they added to the original Defender to make the Grenadier

As I get older I think I'll end up in a tall seat in a tall car / SUV.

But I'd have to be very short of choices to put money into Mr Brexit's 'British' products.

Land Rover is different, because they were bankrupt, again, and were bailed out by foreign companies (again). And tata or whoever bought them has kept some jobs in the UK that would have been lost.

He's not wrong though.

It would pain me to support Ineos, but I have to say I like the idea of an electric Defender, if they manage to make it vaguely practical.

So they're making a 90 County Station Wagon? Where do they get these fresh ideas from?

Wonder if Ineos will ever sell enough to get ahead of the economies of scale curve and become profitable? Personally I don't see anything attractive in the product irrespective of Brexit bks.

Setting aside range issues, electric power really suits off roading. Instant torque, low down weight, simplified ability to drive individual wheels, etc.

Do you want to try and make that even more condescending? I bet you can't.
