I’m not sure if this has been posted before but I was just doing some reading as part of my structural mechanics study and came across this: http://locost7.info/files/chassis/kitcaranalysis.doc

I think some Locost builders may find the advice helpful when building new cars of modifying build ones.

I wrote it!

One day I'll own a garage big enough to make a car in but my current small garage is probably not big enough considering some of the other stuff that I haven't got anywhere to put.

Try looking at the Locostbuilders.co.uk, Meerkat, La Bala and the DPcars websites if building your own car interests you.

You really need to get out more!

I’m surprised you bothered using software though, did you include impact analysis when you decided some of those structural members where almost redundant and could be replaced?

I came across it on the Eng Tips forum (a regular spot for my lurking) on a thread about some south American bloke trying to design one for a racing series.

Unfortunately due to current New Zealand law it is very expensive and impractical to build/modify vehicles in anything but cosmetic ways (which doesn’t really interest me as an engineering student). Perhaps in the future though…

Edit: Hey, I’ve just noticed you live in Gloucester. I was born and raised not that far down the road myself before I moved out into the sticks.
